We had a great one night stay here. We had an Animal View room and could see koalas, wallabies and echidnas from our room, and could hear lots of birds and a beautiful waterfall.
There is private access to the zoo which means that you can pop back to your room easily during the day.
We ordered the lamb at Me-Gal and that was amazing - the view of Sydney is incredible. I'd recommend a sunset reservation to watch the sunset over the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
Our favourite parts of our stay were the tours. We did the sanctuary tour and the night time tour with Andrew, and the morning tour with Lee. They were so lovely and really knowledgeable.

Had the most amazing time at the wildlife retreat. All accommodation and details of the retreat were clean and well maintained. Staff were very helpful and nice and we enjoyed our trip immensely. They made my husbands birthday very memorable as they gave us a really nice table for breakfast to enjoy the view and they left a gift for us in our room. Sensational.

Really great place to stay, away from the busy city and within the zoo, can always take a break after walking in the huge zoo. The staffs were extremely friendly and helpful. The different tours in the retreat also give you a different view of the zoo, especially the night tour. You’ll get to see how the animals behave in the dark.

Really appreciate how the staff will plan out your day perfectly and even write down the timings for all your tours and meals.

Had gotten an animal view room. Even though it was just one koala per area, do check at different timings to see if the koala decides to park itself outside your room.

Amazing and unforgettable experience! We stayed 2 nights, 3 days and wished we booked longer. The retreat itself is beautiful, with wildlife encounters that became the highlight of our trip. Highly recommend joining the included wildlife tours, as they're so informative and well-run. The retreat guides were fantastic, knowledgeable and engaging. We also really appreciated that they were able to add a rollaway bed for our 10-year-old, which made the stay even more comfortable. The only downside: restaurant and lounge staff felt a bit tired and not as welcoming, which stood out against the otherwise incredible stay. Still, a must-experience (ideally more than 2 nights) for something truly special.

As a return guest for the third time, I can confidently say that the Wildlife Retreat at Taronga is the ultimate luxury escape right in the heart of Sydney. With its breathtaking views over the harbour and the unique experience of staying next door to Taronga Zoo, it’s truly one of a kind.

From the moment you arrive, the reception team makes you feel personally welcomed. Their exceptional service and warm, professional communication add a special touch that makes each visit feel even more memorable than the last.

If you’re planning a stay, I highly recommend booking one of the Animal View Rooms, nothing compares to waking up and seeing wildlife just outside your window. For something even more indulgent, the Tree Top Suite is simply stunning. Both offer a serene, immersive experience you won’t find anywhere else in the city.

Don’t miss dining at Me-Gal restaurant upstairs—an absolute must-try. With its fine cuisine and sweeping harbour views, it rounds out the experience perfectly.

This place continues to exceed my expectations, and I can’t wait for my next visit. A stay at the Wildlife Retreat is not just a getaway—it’s a truly unforgettable experience.

Beautiful zoo. Nice clean rooms. Great views of kangaroo habitat from the room. Reception is friendly and will store your luggage before check in and after check out

So many beautiful and exotic birds and animals. Really loved seeing koala, capybara, giraffes and gorillas.

At the Animal View Room, we could watch the koala sleeping and eating right in front of us, which was an amazing experience. The front desk staff were very kind and helpful, and our one-night stay as a family was both comfortable and memorable. The view of the city from the breakfast area was also absolutely fantastic!

A very charming and unique hotel — we had a pleasant one-night stay. The staff were friendly, the architecture felt beautifully immersed in nature, and the Me-Gal restaurant offered a comfortable fine dining experience with a spectacular view. The highlight of our stay, the animal tour, was truly exceptional. Overall, I would rate this as a 4.3 out of 5 place to stay.

The only area for improvement would be cleanliness. The bedsheet in our room had some stains, and the overall room cleanliness could be better. If this is addressed, Wildlife Retreat at Taronga has the potential to become a truly world-class hotel.
