That was an interesting experience. I walked in to get two quotes for an international trip and was asked to pay an upfront fee to get a quote as this was ‘new company policy’. I get it, business is under the pump and short staffed, but the premiums that are attached to the travel agents fees always cover these costs. I literally had the easiest schedule to cover with time and dates already sorted.

People like me use travel agents because we are genuinely time poor not because I want to book it myself after you have done the leg work.
