Please be wary of dealing with Laurence at Utopia Charters, he still refuses to refund me $1000.
I booked a charter with him earlier this year, he cancelled with a phone call at 9pm the sunday prior to our charter, citing that he had overbooked himself. After days of him not answering his phone he admitted he used my $4200 to fix his boat, and has only refunded small bits of that balance over the last few months. Im constantly chasing him up. He almost never answers his phone, and whilst his very occasional messages promise to refund me, his actions say otherwise.
Dont get scammed!

Kia ora Laurie and crew, we really enjoyed our charter on board Utopia yesterday! Thank you for going the extra mile and giving us such a magical experience on the water!! We all had such a great time at Radical Bay, snorkeling, swimming and chilling out on the floating sea lounger. Catching fish was an added bonus!! It was a special day of 40th celebrations and will be a treasured memory for us all. Nga mihi ki a koutou! (Thank you all).

Extremely disappointing! Took money and did not provide the service! 6 months later still chasing a refund. Was taking bookings and people's money when his boat was out of action and in dry dock and damaged.

Excellent whole day fishing swimming all the crew were fantastic, great boat and the sunset at the end of the day was spectacular. Highly reccomended

There was an initial mix-up with our booking and we were not sure, on the day, that it was going to go ahead. However we were very glad it did. Was surprised to see some of the negative reviews -- that was not our experience at all. Laurie was a congenial and enthusiastic host/skipper, and the boat was great.
The trip from Nelly Bay to the N.E. corner of Maggie Island was a bit rough for some of our (20+) group who hadn't sailed much before i.e. pushing into the waves. After that it was much smoother sailing.
The stopover for swimming/snorkelling in Radical Bay was enjoyable, even though the water visibility was not great on the day.
After that we had a look at Horseshoe Bay before heading out N.W. to find some good fishing holes on the way to Rattlesnake Island. However a few of our group, who had found the first part of the trip disagreeable, were now becoming quite sick.
Laurie suggested that we run them back to Nelly Bay (around the west side of Maggie Island), after which he would take the rest of us out again for a couple of hours fishing. We appreciated his flexibility in doing this.
We fished at Middle Reef, and although possibly not as good as the other spots he had in mind earlier, we still enjoyed it and managed to reel in a couple. We arrived back at 8:30pm, much later than we (or the crew) were expecting, but glad still to get that chance to get some fishing in.

We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary on an afternoon circumnavigate of Magnetic Island.
The weather wasn't great, but skipper Laurie did everything he could to push into the waves to make it smooth sailing.
The bays around Maggie are so inviting and the rugged Island edges are spectacular, making for some beautiful photography.
We had a go at some fishing, and all the best quality fishing tackle and rods were provided. Although we didn't catch anything, we had a beautiful, relaxing afternoon, taking in the gorgeous scenery.
We loved how clean and white the boatis kept, the open plan saloon style lounge area, but my favourite was riding high on the upper level 360° scenic deck.

absolutely recommend this charter/ cruise. From booking to arriving to coming home you are taken care of. Laurie the skipper makes you feel like family and he was so amazing with our children. We caught some amazing fish and the ride out to the reef and on return was so comfortable aboard this luxury cruiser. I highly recommend the UTOPIA for your next trip when visit Townsville..5 Stars...
