The receptionist was so rude & turned me away completely with no leads or help.
It’s hard enough being in a position where you are facing homelessness and have to ask for help, but being made to feel like you are worthless by someone who is employed to help is unacceptable.
I approached Unison after being told to another organisation, the lady didn’t even greet me at the counter she just looked at me, I explained why I was there and asked for help, she basically told me there’s nothing they can do and I’m better off trying somewhere else. No compassion or even an attempt to help. No one asks to be put into these horrible circumstances and I certainly wish I didn’t have to resort to needing help but isn’t this what these organisations are for?
I can’t speak on the workers here, but as for the rude female receptionist, do better. Don’t work in this industry if you lack compassion or even basic understanding.

I think this service does not suit everyone who is in dire need of housing.
The staff knowingly or unknowingly will take on everyone for an “initial assessment”.
The problem with this office is that there is not proper management and proper system in place.
I asked to speak to a manager in the hope that I could find an answer to my questions, only to speak to someone who did not take any form of accountability.
Although the service seems to work OK for some certain people, I do not find the service efficient and times consuming for me.
I find them to be paper based focused rather than result driven.
They have my ID (passport) yet they call me to come in to provide them another ID such a driver’s licence.

So far they are doing the best they can. The staff are lovely. Being homeless is always exhausting. Always having to present in the morning.... that's just how it is in the beginning. After about a week I'm moving to the second phase, I hope. I have nothing bad to say about this service.

I have been using this as a housing service, only cos I'm told I have to. I've dealt with them for the past 6 months and on a daily basis for the last 3 to 4 weeks now and not only have I received very little in the way of assistance, but the help I was given is done in such a way as to waste as much government funding as possible and to be of the least benefit to me as a client. I also see them do the same thing to anyone that comes here for help. They pay large amounts of money to dodgy landlord's, they won't assess ppl as individuals and this has the result of any decent accommodation that's available won't accept money from Unison due to their clientele destroying and disrespecting the places they go. The staff appear to have no interest in improving Melbourne's current homeless population and they regularly do things to both exacerbate and increase homelessness in Melbourne

The only way you can get in the priority housing list is using only one service in your area holding a monopoly.
No appointments can be made.. Just show up on a drop in system..
Understandable, but homelessness comes in many forms.. Either sleeping in a Bush destitute, or all good.. What if you're sleeping in a car or couch surfing?
I understand someone completely destitute is in more need than someone couch surfing which is why it's perplexing as to why if I show up before someone more in need do I get through first? When asking this and how a drop in, spin and win type lottery of seeing someone counts asan appointment.. Which is required before being able to even apply mind you.. I was released from the call by the operator.. Seems I can't get support let alone a straight answer..
How are these people the gate keepers of this system,? .. Why do the under privileged and most at risk not even get to have a choice in the service they use to try and get on the right path again?
Especially when the service is so inefficient..

Due to a unforeseen violent situation we ended up here at Unison, a homeless family with 5 children, They managed to help us get into permanent accommodation, would just like to say case worker Holly was the Best,so friendly, caring, compassionate unlike some of the other staff, Thanks Holly, we appreciated your help and Kindness
