A place worth visiting.

At present, it's closed, but looking forward to revisiting. While visiting take a walk along the monument trail.

A wonderfully presented piece of history. Reasonable admission with family passes for $30. I strongly advise watching the introductory video (10 mins) in the room adjacent to the Museum before beginning your self-guided tour. As most of the roof is open save for a few open cells to explore, please be super sun safe. 🌞
There are 2 minting machines which accept gold coins so be sure to bring some loose change too. A few of the cells have looped recordings that give you a glimpse into Gaol life and there is a lovely lookout from the topof the wall overlooking Trial Bay (A great spot for a panorama shot). Please be aware the lookout is via 3 large flights of stairs that narrow at the top and the landing is only about 1.5m²
Be sure to stop in at the reception again on your way out for some memorabilia or an ice cream.
There are wheelchair accessible flushing toilets and very easy parking including disabled parks.

Love the area. Powered sites are good. Unpowered available on the water but can be windy. The Gail is closed at the moment due to renovations. July 2024

Don’t be put off cos they say it’s a ruin! It’s far from it. Very interesting and lots of information. So well preserved and not expensive to enter. Friendly kangaroos like to hang out between the cell blocks. Up on the lookout tower the views are amazing. Have visited a few times now and enjoy it every time
