Absolute garbage. stopped for lunch , ordered 4 Barra burgers, turned up before we finished our beer.
3 were good and the one that I was served was crap - a sliver of fish and burnt crumb. I asked for a replacement, which was agreed. 15 minutes later everyone else was finished beers emptied. No burger. I inquired about how much longer it would be, a couple of minutes later I was presented with the same crap I had earlier, Only now it was cold.

We wont be going anywhere near that outfit again while we are in town.

Dined in the restaurant only and wow what an amazing meal and service. the food was top class taste and presentation and the ladies serving were friendly helpful and let us enjoy our meal on the upstairs balcony. Do not visit Cooktown without experience a meal here 5 stars *

Supposedly the best accomodation in town, but couldn't possibly be classed as 4 star. Room was dark and musty, no door on the toilet or bathroom and could hear everything in the rooms either side. Bed was comfortable but thats the only positive.

I only had one night here but it was wonderful. The beds were very comfortable the pillows were perfectly soft and the bathroom was really nice. There is an actual mini bar with alcohol as well. Everything electrical worked and the balcony with a view over the pool and restaurant was gorgeous. I really loved this hotel and the room and amenities. I would definitely stay here again

The Sovie as it is known as by locals is situated on the main street in Cooktown. Yes, it does have wheel chair access. You have the choice of the restaurant upstairs (a tad more swanky) or sitting outside under the covered area which requires casual dress. We might qualify for being the largest unfenced asylum in Oz, yes, we're a tad weird, but we're not bogan. Meals are reasonably priced though I usually order pizza ($22) and take half home. The lemon, lime, and bitter in a schooner was $5 so it's a cheap meal. I have given it 5 stars because it's a good allrounder motel. I never stayed in the rooms but from all reports they are on a par with other motels in Cookie and Cairns. When my mate Roy's house burnt down the owner put him in one of the rooms free of charge for quite some time. Now that's priceless.

We had lunch here simply because there was nowhere else in Cooktown that was open for a meal at lunch time. Lovely venue and pleasant to sit outside - staff not very friendly though and limited selections. We chose the coral trout, locally caught, with chips - just under $30 each, with salad $5 extra - we declined the salad after seeing a few others with salad which looked like a few sad lettuce leaves with a dob of mayo added. The fish was beautiful in a crispy batter but expensive for just fish and chips.

I'll be going elsewhere next time.........the check in was ok, but not very informative of the property facilities or town when when were greeted for our arrival. Booked a 'resort room' but it felt like under underground bunker, cold, dark, no sunlight and our outside sitting area we were eaten alive my sandflies. It was a complete waste of our $300 as it was not enjoyable at all for a room experience. WiFi was not stable and very weak. Reported to reception that the toilet was loud and kept running with water only to be told that it will have to wait to the morning as there is no one to look at it today. My visit to Cooktown was enjoyable but the accommodation us very disappointing for a lasting memory of our visit.
