We really enjoyed our trip in the Savannahlander. The drivers were both certified eco guides and were very knowledgeable. Along the way we saw Wallabies, brolgas, kites, emus and of course, cattle. It was nice to just roll along rocking gently from side to side and enjoying the commentary and with no road in sight.
The driver encouraged everyone to come up and spend a few minutes at the front of the train so you could chat and take photographs.
Sadly the track has been damaged near Einasleigh, and while Savannahlander has arranged a coach to take you to the other side of the damage to continue your ride, the government, who contract the Savannahlander company to provide this service, has given no indication when, or even IF it will repair the damaged track (the track belongs to the government). Come on Qld government... You have a great attraction here which bolsters the region's tourism, why not keep it running smoothly!?
Cheers and enjoy

After seeing the Savannahlander’s on the Myway program we were excited to book it and experience it ourselves. We weren’t disappointed the kids aged 11 & 12 rated it 10/10 and so did we. Our first all inclusive tour it was very well organised and had different accommodation options to suit. A great way to see some of the outback and have. Great experience

We have just completed the 4 day Savannahlander tour with drivers/tour guides Will and Mar. What an adventure!
No 5 star hotels, no casino, no fine dining, just a wonderful experience of exploring the Outback and its incredible sites, and meeting some of its amazing characters. The little train itself was a great experience as it wound its way through steep mountain ranges and across Savannah Plains. We saw stunning views and heaps of wildlife along the way. The sites we visited - Cobbold Gorge and Undara Lava Tubes- are incredible. Each little town we stopped at for meals or accommodation welcomed us warmly.
Will and Mar kept us informed and entertained with their stories and also took great care of us in a courteous and friendly manner.
One warning: it was a strenuous holiday with early starts and long days, but I would not have missed a minute of it. Truly a memorable trip.

We took this adventure on 25 Sept 2024, for 4 days from Cairns. We took our grandson, a train enthusiast, to celebrate his 13th birthday. We all had a fabulous time. The grandson bought his phone with him but mostly used it to take pictures of the amazing things we did and saw. The guides/drivers (Wil and Joe) were fantastic. They shared stories about the areas we passed through, include the flora and fauna, and why it needs to be protected. They also answered questions on the absence of indigenous Australia’s in this area. An uncomfortable story that needs to be heard for future unity. We cruised on Cobbold Gorge, walked through a cave in Chilligoe and also the Undara Lava tubes, truly amazing. Best of all was how Wil and Joe treated everyone on board with respect and courtesy. From the keen young ones up to the older less mobile guests. I highly recommend this experience.

Just returned from the 4 day trip with Wil and Mar. I had almost cancelled due to the bridge issues but glad I didn't. Everything was so well run and organized and even when things went upside down (not their fault) everything still got sorted as smoothly as possible. I know a lot more about termites than I think I ever wanted to know and the commentary from both of them was excellent. Don't just do the bit from Mt Surprise to Einasleigh, do the whole 4 days, that's the real Savannahlander experience. Just hope that this amazing experience can be continued for many more to enjoy it.

We had a brilliant time and would encourage people to do the trip. Our guides Hamish and Matt are a great team, knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. It’s obvious they care for the Savannah and it’s people and animals. We will be back to see it in a different season.

Great historic train ride. I did this close to winter and the temperature on the train and the lush scenery were perfect. I wouldn't want to do this in the wet season, would be a sauna. Great history lesson with map and audio guides. Highly recommend the Sky Rail Sky Lift on the way back down the hill after a schnittt and couple of cold ones at the Kuranda pub.
