A cosy old pub in the main street of Canowindra, the fire was roaring as the wind blew outside, the staff and the locals were friendly and the menu showed plenty of promise.|I was pretty hungry so went for some Cheesy Garlic Bread to start and then the Fisherman's Basket, and my partner had some Tempura Prawns (or similar I cant remember and will explain why).|As the minutes ticked by I was starving and as soon as the Cheesy Garlic Bread hit the table I was into it - and it was so good, and by the time we had nearly finished it I realised I had to leave room for the main but plenty of times a Fisherman's can be little more that small serve of fish n chips plus a random calamari.|Well when it came out I knew I was in trouble, I'm not sure if it was meant for 2 people but the basket was as big as my head and I knew I had a hard slog to do this justice. Now quantity is one thing but the quality was outstanding and last time I checked Canowindra isn’t anywhere near the ocean, it had plenty of fresh small fillets, battered prawns, perfectly cooked calamari, crumbed scallops, all sitting on a bed of crisp chips.|I'm embarrassed to say it beat me, the first time ever a Fisherman's has gotten the better of me, I hated leaving anything behind but I left in a delightful food coma (hence why I can’t remember what my other half had).

We didn't stay at the hotel, but a group of us had dinner in the dining room on 3rd Sep and Kath and the gals she had helping cooked the greatest steaks and up-sold us on some super cheesecake. Was a great evening! We were very well looked after. Thanks!

Loved the good ol' country vibe here. The staff member in the pub was welcoming, energetic and lively. Steak was cooked right, even though dinner took a little longer to come out. Made no mis-steak coming here at all!

Not much to look at and we were a bit tentative walking in after The Royal was recommended, but the meal and service were outstanding!|The use of local produce was really showcased.|There is an internal dining room and extensive beer garden and courtyard out the back. Would definitely recommend.

We were lucky to secure a dinner reservation during Canowindra's Food festive in this beautiful, old country pub. The pub is owned by John Watson and what a service John, his daughter Rebecca and staff provide. You are looked after in a friendly, no fuss, nothing is too much trouble manner. It has a beautiful bar and a great open fireplace. To top it off, the night we were there they had a " Shanks and Shiraz " event. Rebecca cooked the shanks and I have eaten some memorable shank meals previously, however Rebecca outdid anything that I had eaten before. They were fantastic. The only downside is that they have restricted opening hours. Next time we are planning trip we will be checking with John when the pub is open.

We had dinner here in the pub. There was no steak on the night, they had to find out what was for dessert and what it cost. The sport on the TV is quite distracting, but the food is good and the staff friendly. We had chicken pesto pasta and calamari and chips and finished off with mud cake. The locals know this place and that's always a good sign.

This is a beautiful country town with an age appropriate hotel offering good old fashion country hospitality. The rooms are quaint and the beds incredibly comfortable. The food is great and the drinks cold. If you like some interesting history with your stay then you've come to the right place. You'll love it!

Dropped in for dinner on Friday night. Family orientated atmosphere. Seafood basket was too big for me. Excellent hosts. Beer was exceptional
