Great restaurant opposite the Adelaide railway station it was our first time here but it certainly won't be our last the food was fantastic with good sized meals at reasonable prices it can get very busy and noisy when the football is on so it's worth making a booking well worth a visit if you're staying in the city

The vegan schnitzel/parmi used to be big and really tasty - it is now $33 for a vegan parmi and the schnitzel is significantly smaller. Portion sizes in general quite small for the vegan options. Def hit up the Hilton instead if you’re after a good size vegan parmi!

The portion size is quite good, and the overall environment was pleasant. However, the food itself was very average.
The curry sauce was decent in flavour, but unfortunately, the chicken used seemed to be entirely breast meat, no thigh or drumstick pieces at all. Worse still, it was extremely dry, tough, and overcooked. I could only manage to eat two pieces before giving up.

“Adelaides Hidden Secret”

This gem is located in the railway station hence the name .

The Guardsman

The decor is amazing and reflects the fitting image of a railway carriage of a bygone era. The bench / club seats are what you would have found in trains in 1960s, which creates space and privacy Everything is nostalgic in the space including the outstanding heritage tiles and antique style basins in the bathroom.

Food,

Quality of the food is outstanding , this is not the first time I have dined here but the great experience again and again rd compelled me to review.
I had Chicken Caesar Salad , it was a substantial dish with large pieces of fresh chicken, crispy lettuce and croutons, the sauce was tasty and unusual so I figure it’s made in house , my only comment and not a negative is that I personally prefer a poached egg that runs as opposed to a soft boiled egg halved .The real surprise was the white anchovies on the side just delicious.
My colleague had a beef Schnitzel which was very large but had a very good size piece of meat ( not just crumb)
My grandson had a burger from the kids menu it was on a full size bun with a delicious home made patty probably 150gm with crispy fries. I think his meal was $12 which included a scoop of ice cream presented on a desert plate with chocolate flakes.
The menu is diverse and covers most popular fares.
Menu prices are excellent and I know they are cheaper than the majority of pubs in Adelaide.
There are daily specials which are excellent value , the must do thing after reading the review is to check the menu and the specials.

My bill was $72
1- Hot Chocolate
1-Burger Deal from children’s menu
1-Chicken Caesar Salad
1-Beef Schnitzel

1-Pint of Pale Ale
1-Pint of Soda with fresh lemon.

Unfortunately, the fish had more batter than fish. Disguising the flavour to batter.
The chips and salad were very nice and well presented.
The service was excellent.
I would go back but not for fish and chips

Came for dinner on a Thursday night with a work team, surprised with how quickly the food came out but was great. Everyone had a great time, place is super noisy but calmed down once few people started to leave. Great people watching in the afternoon during the rush hour.

The bar service was terrible. We had a group booked. The girl behind the bar asked us to move along, we were just standing there greeting everyone in our group who were arriving. She did not serve us for the remainder of the night, maybe she was homophobic, not that was the dynamic of the group. Would not recommend. We spend alot of money, would definitely recommend you go elsewhere to spend your money and support a better environment.
