The Colonist Hotel Review

I had a pleasant stay at The Colonist Hotel. The service was excellent, with staff being attentive and professional. The food was also delicious, offering a great variety of well-prepared dishes. However, the environment was not ideal—the lighting was a bit dim, and some areas felt slightly outdated. Despite this, everything else was great, making it a generally enjoyable experience.

The dining room with its Klimt inspired decor is really lovely and the tables are nicely spaced out. Our meals were generous and delicious and good value for money. The service was friendly and efficient although it took a few minutes for the waitress to actually greet us (she seemed to be on her own at that stage, although we interacted with other staff later in our visit). one small complaint was that the crumb coat on the fish was rather thick.

The Colonist didn’t disappoint. The salt & pepper squid was cooked to perfection. The sides were generous, consisting of super tasty chips and a fresh salad. Their roasted pumpkin salad is also excellent. We’ve been back since and once again enjoyed excellent food and service. The Colonist is definitely right up there with the quality of the food and service.

Rump steak and wee bit chewy, but very flavoursome, as was the rest of the meal. Little serve of chimichurri was delicious and house red (Shiraz blend?) very enjoyable. Only my second visit but highly recommend 👌

Thank you Paul for the way you listened to my partner who felt uncomfortable during service due to unruly patrons. You were protective, thoughtful, subtle and showed great pride in your establishment and the comfort of patrons. It's unusual to witness venue managers adhere to RSA and protective measures with such immediacy and responsiveness. Thank you. Class act, "occasionals" just converted to regulars, will spread the word.
