I stayed at the cottage for three nights and was very comfortable. It's newly refurbished so a few floor boards squeak, but it's an older house so that's expected. Plenty of space for our family with a large kitchen, living area and bathroom. It's a fully stocked house, and we were able to use the laundry and all kitchen facilities without trouble.

Although it's not in the centre of town, we had our own car and everything in Broken Hill is close when you drive so it was never an issue. The website was clear it was a few kms from the main hotel so we expected that.

The only comment I can make is the second bedroom could use twin beds for those of us travelling as families, as the cottage has two Queen-sized beds in the bedrooms. We made it work with the spare fold out bed, though.

Over all it was comfortable and we were happy here.

We absolutely loved the hotel, which has been undergoing a loving restoration.
Brilliant and tasteful styling has returned the old hotel to its former glory.
Rooms are enormous and very comfortable. We revelled in sitting on the expansive deck overlooking Argent Street.
We had the pleasure of being shown through the hotel by the owners - gorgeous!

Front bar with so much character! We really enjoyed our evening which started off with happy hour 5.30-8.30pm resulting us staying for a meal as well. Generous pizza sizes and types and great service. Super casual yet elegant front bar with colour theme to be seen with red chesterfields, black and white walls, candle light and chandeliers to suit.

Great room, easy, clean. Stairs a bit for some, and unsure if footpath cleaner every morning about 6am very loud. Cars in Main Street at night, but that’s what you get for being in the centre. Was a Tuesday night so pub not open late, understandable. Dining was still open and bar in there happy to serve late cocktail

The booking website is not clear . The cottage is not near the station or the Main Street, it is more than 2.5km away. Despite knowing we were arriving on the 7:00pm train there was no one readily available at reception and after finally finding someone we were given the news that we were staying in a cottage and given vague instructions on how to walk to the ‘cottage’ in the dark….after 30mins walking we turned around and went back to the Astra where we eventually found a lift to the cottage
The cottage is a clean but run down property that has been tarted up for Sale.
A hire car was essential as we had to drive into town for every meal and nighttime entertainment
The cottage is overpriced and its location definitely did not allow us to have the getaway experience we had planned
We booked months in advance based on it coming up as the first option available for 4 adults on the Astra website and despite other email communications, never was the location of the cottage mentioned. Unbeknown to us, All of the positive reviews were in regards to the Astra hotel. the website has now been updated

On our return home we were contacted by the owner who was keen to resolve our concerns

The dinner and dessert was exceptional. I recommend the Astra, over the Broken Hill pub, which wasn't very nice at all. Meals all came out reasonably together, serving 9 people. Only one cook,1 waiter, and 1 bar attendant Saturday dinner.Considering the number of customers the staff did exceptionally well.

Astra – Broken Hill||We stayed here for 3 nights in the Deluxe Suite. People have noted the car park here as being small and it is smaller than small. It fits 4 to 5 cars. However, I had no issue with parking in the street which at times I did during the day and after 5 pm it’s easy to park nearer the hotel. We were lucky though and managed to get a park in the actual car park every night later in the afternoon. It has to be considered this is an old property and it’s not like there is land to expand the car park. We also did not feel concerned about parking in the street. Always felt safe. There is secure access and the door always needs to be shut behind you. ||You do have to use stairs to get into the rooms, so it’s a consideration. ||The room was clean and refurbished some time ago, but it was perfect. The shower pressure etc is fantastic. There was tea, coffee, milk etc. The hair dryer was great. The pillows and mattress I could not fault. There was plenty of cupboard space, a couch, a desk and also a split system. The balcony is a large old pub balcony that once may have hosted many people but it’s a little rickety and dusty. We did see a tradie there so perhaps there will be a refurbishment in the future. There was outdoor furniture and a wonderful place for a cup of tea in the morning or a glass of wine at night. ||Plenty of power points. The Internet was okay and no signing in every time you came back to your room. You could even access it downstairs in the public areas and outside when having a drink. ||It was a quiet place. The location was fantastic and easy to walk everywhere. ||We did have dinner at Trinders. It looks extremely grand and once again excellent service. I had the best porterhouse and my husband had the gnocchi. Everything is pricey but that's the way it is everywhere. ||I had a salad at the adjacent café and it cost me a small fortune. It was tasty.||I have to say the staff here are so worked off their feet, some of the bar staff are doing two shifts a day due to lack of staff. No fault of the hotel. I want to say to all the staff, you are amazing and thank you for your service.
