One of my fav places on the north island. About 10 min from wellington CBD, this place is amazing! Lovely walking paths and plenty of parking spaces too. Also one of the best places for astrophotographers. Truly stunning!

A real lesson of historic stories of our beautiful bay, with sound effects that will surprise you. Handy lil coffee cart with vast array of baked goods too.

Did the big hike and added a bit out to devil's gate for a total of ~6.4miles. Great views but expect some steep elevation. Beautiful blustery coastal walk on the return.

An amazing place to visit, trek, relax, and freedom camp (we didn't, but so would love it, if we could).

The information center is lovely. There are public toilets and lovely sitting areas. Sorry, my phone went flat whilst on the walk, so I couldn't take photos of the lovely garden bench seats.

It's a bit of a drive to get here, but well worth it.
Bring a picnic, plenty of water, have a swim and enjoy the coastal walk, it's about 8kms round trip, 95% flat, with a couple wee elevated areas (nothing really). Gravel all the way.

There was a coffee caravan there too.

Great info on the local area and walks. Bathrooms are clean and well stocked plus they are open all night for campers. There are several sockets to charge electronics within the centre which does close on an evening.

This is the starting point for the walk or 4 wheel drive to red rocks. It has toilets, picnic tables and information boards. The track to red rocks is closed to vehicles on weekend. Cycling is allowed. The other attraction is a number of freedom camping sites which fill up quickly in warmer months. The area is exposed to southerly winds and can be very uncomfortable
