The food and service was absolutely perfect in every way, we ordered porterhouse steak medium rare and it was a delight to eat,.the barramundi was the best we ever tried and the lamb shoulder 100% yummy. A huge thanks to all the staff for a wonderful and welcoming experience.

Ordered a meal at 7pm, reached 9.30pm before it arrived. This was not just our table but seemingly everyone. What is worse is that at no point did the staff acknowledge the mistakes and offer some drinks or apologies, it took us having to constantly hassle them to get any action. At the end of the meal however the staff did make reparations to ‘make good’ the situations with many of the families. Perhaps early teething problems. When the food did arrive it was tasty.

We are locals who were really looking forward to a revamped Sussex. Tried it a few times years ago but didn’t go back because the food wasn’t great. Like others I am sure, we were very keen to try the new Sussex. I went with friend two nights ago and whilst not brilliant (a few staff need to learn how to use tills etc), it was pretty good. Tonight was my birthday dinner with the family. It took 1 hour before any food came to the table and my 11 and 9 year were climbing the walls. Mine came and was wrong. That took another 20 minutes to sort out. Bit of a disaster I have to say. Yes, I was offered a free drink (eventually) but not happy. As we were about to leave, I was asked by Kelly if she could clear the plates. I had already mentioned to two previous people that we had a disaster of a night and perhaps a manager could speak to us but nothing happened. Anyway, Kelly was the difference between 1 star and 3 stars as she was empathetic and most importantly in this situation did something that will mean we try them again. She said sorry and gave us a voucher as an apology. As someone who trains people in customer service for a living, this gesture was huge and what should happen. Anyway, big rant but I feel better now :). We will give them another try.

I have never had a bad meal at the Sussex hotel. The chicken and beef schnitzels are amazing, super crispy and thick! I would highly recommend. The atmosphere was great and the staff are always very helpful.

The new renos are great. We went last Friday night 6th Dec, we got a table and it filled up really quickly. The bar staff are a bit green, hopefully get better with more experience.

Eventually gave up on the Sussex years ago, so was very excited and hopeful to come back. Did not disappoint, we had a lovely night. Haloumi was superb, kangaroo was cooked perfectly, although jus was a bit watery and lacking zing. Could not fault the salt and pepper squid, delicious! Chips are a bit bland, seasoning needs tweaking. Good wine list. A drier sparkling red is needed as Bleasdale way too sweet. Staff are new but friendly and doing well. Atmosphere/decor hasn't changed dramatically but still nice and fresh. Very much looking forward to the beer garden this summer (minus the wafting poo smells I hope!!!)
We will be regular visitors.

I was waiting in anticipation for this Hotel to Reopen. I am sooo disappointed. We came to the Opening Night. We ordered the Garfish and Caesar Salad. The Garfish was way over cooked (like cardboard) the salad had a HARD boiled egg sitting on top and the Salad itself was average. I sent the fish back and received another exactly the same. I sent that back also and went home and made myself a sandwich. Thought I would. Call in between appointments today and ordered a drink and the Fries. OMG, the fries were sooo salty I had to send them back. I expected teething problems but who is your Cook/Chef? What a shame.. The hotel looks Fabulous !! I’m not even going to comment on the service.
