We booked this hotel for upcoming Christmas Holiday however unexpectedly my husband had to go in for a surgery and is unable to travel for couple of months . We contacted the hotel seeking for refund . Understandable the ticket we bought was non refundable however given we have given them 5 weeks notice of cancellation and given timing of the year we are sure they will be able to let the rooms out to other people. Given this is a genuine reason for cancellation we expected more empathy and understanding . Will never recommend this hotel to anyone

A decent enough motel for our one night stay...we arrived after a long drive from Kangaroo Island and decided to dump our bags and have dinner. The restaurant was clean and staff friendly....the food was good as was the wine. Comfortable room, clean and tidy and a decent shower though rather noisy through the night with road noise. Breakfast was ok, nothing special but set us up for the day and both dinner and breakfast were good value for money.

Review for South Gate Motel, Mount Gambier

I recently stayed at the South Gate Motel in Mount Gambier, and I must say, it was an absolutely delightful experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt right at home. The property is charming, and the cozy bed made for some of the best sleep I've had in a while. The water pressure in the bathroom was excellent, which is always a plus!

What truly set this place apart, however, was the staff. They were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making sure that all my needs were met. But the highlight of my stay was definitely my interactions with the lovely chef in charge of the kitchen. As a chef myself, I can be a bit of a picky eater—years in the kitchen will do that to you! But I was genuinely blown away by the quality of the dishes she served.

Not only is she talented in the kitchen, but her caring demeanor and positive attitude made my dining experience even more special. I had a bit of a chewing issue during my stay, and she went above and beyond to ensure I was well-fed and taken care of. Hats off to her for her exceptional service; my heart felt so grateful for her kindness.

Now, let’s talk about the food! Her gnocchi in rose sauce was simply divine, and the mushroom and chicken risotto? To die for! If you’re staying at South Gate Motel, do yourself a favor and eat here—you won’t want to go anywhere else!

Overall, I highly recommend South Gate Motel for its excellent accommodations and outstanding culinary experience. I can’t wait to return! Thank you to the entire team for making my stay so memorable.

We stayed there for a night on 8-9 June 2024 in a premier king room. The check-in process was fast and smooth and the front desk staff was very helpful. The room was very spacious with a sofa at the living room and a nice bathtub in the toilet. Michaela did a wonderful job cleaning and tidying up the room for us. When we saw that the kettle had some scaling, we went to the front desk to change it and they were more than happy to get a new one for us. It was a very pleasant stay for us overall and we highly recommend the hotel.

Meals are great and friendly service, the rooms are very nice ,so is the pool spa and sauna , I'd recommend staying here if your ever in the region

Very comfortable place to stay. The staff are excellent, especially Stephanie. The bed was comfortable and amenities excellent. The only issue we had was the occasional truck going past. The first time we weren't sure what it was, a loud thud and it seemed like our room rumbled from the noise. That said it didn't wake us during the night, it was just a little off-putting at first. In the morning we realized why, we had a room close to the highway. It's probably not even noticeable in other parts of the complex. It won't stop us staying again. Overall it was very good value for the tariff.
