One Saturday afternoon I was half way through a 14 day trip having ridden down to Tassie from Northern NSW when a problem became evident with my own bike. Try to cancel bookings, change the SoT return trip and the flight home from Melbourne, or hire a bike?
By lunchtime the next day (Sunday) I was on one of Don’s bikes. Nothing was a problem. He offered to pick me up if the bike completely broke down on the way to his place on the Sunday. Loaded up his bike with luggage so I could just take the bags out of my panniers and put them in his boxes and away I went to Cradle Mountain.
Returned the bike on the Friday, picked up my own bike and limped it the 60 kays back to Devonport to catch the SoT and ship it home from Melbourne, as was the original plan.
I’d have no hesitation in recommending Don as the go to man for those wanting to hire a bike in Tasmania.

In February 2023 I hired a motorbike (GS 800) from Don and Claire, for a long weekend. I did a self directed tour around North East Tasmania, with a group of mates. Don picked me up from the Launceston Airport, with the bike on the back of a trailer. We travelled to a nearby service station, where the paper work was completed and keys handed over. The process was repeated in reverse on the return without fuss. The price was competitive and paid at the time of paper work. The security was placed on hold on a credit card. Other hire companies considered prior to engaging Don, wanted monies to be transferred into bank accounts prior to arrival and double the security holding. Some of these companies also suggested they were located in Launceston, when in fact they weren’t. This is the hire company you need to go with!
