Great pub and bistro.
Plenty of room to cater for groups and the food was excellent. Serving sizes were terrific and the quality of the food was excellent. Prices were standard pub bistro prices.
It was great to have a salad bar and vegetable bar. Only negative was that they gave you one plate for the salad/veg bar after you ordered, which meant re-using your plate. Not that big of a deal for me.
There's a little play area for the kids that was well utilized and enjoyed by the 5-12yos.

Front bar has a great relaxed country vibe with friendly staff. Can't ask for more than that.

Had a great family dinner here. Good range of classic pub meals as well as a great salad and roast veg bar. The kids devoured the slow cooked pork ribs, which were juicy and meat cooked perfectly. Grilled fish was also great. Salad and veg bar has a good range of options. Servings are generous and prices are very reasonable. Some good local house wines available by the glass. Service is quick and friendly and the dining hall has a good buzz about it.

Went here for lunch on Sunday 11/02/2024. Three meals ordered were: Mixed grill, seafood basket & Rump steak. All very nice meals & service was prompt & friendly. Salad bar & vegie bar are noteworthy & a variety of selection.

Nice country pub with a big front/sports bar and friendly staff.
Had myself a beef schnitzel which was good size and came with plenty of gravy on the side and they also have a very decent salad and veg bar that was quite tasty to help yourself too. So no complaints there either

The South Eastern Hotel is a fantastic representation of your Australian local pub, good atmosphere, great staff, and superb food.
I had the Jucy Lucy (Beef Burger), and it's definitely in my top three burgers. The flavours complement each other so well!
The meat, patty is juicy and full of flavour.
It pairs well with the lettuce and tomato relish. Everything tasted fresh.
The chips were crunchy but soft in the centre, and well seasoned.

Overall, I'll definitely be coming back here!

We were working in Mt Gambier and came to the South Eastern for dinner.
The hotel was practically empty.
Upon ordering food, we were told the kitchen was closed due to renovations to the flooring, and the restricted menu available was what the food truck outside could make.
Really, we should have gone elsewhere for a meal.

The food and drink were ok. (Decent for a truck).
The atmosphere was non-existent. (Maybe the locals were staying away because of the renovations?)
Service was friendly, but the bar staff/waitress that served us seemed "scattered" and forgetful.
Would be interested to see if anything changes after the flooring renovation is completed, but I'll likely never know as the next time I'm in Mt Gambier, I will be trying a different location for dinner.
