I couldn’t speak more highly of Jimmy from Snowy Valley’s Fly Fishing. We had an awesome day on the Tumut River, he was an excellent guide and really spent the time helping my 14 year old son. His knowledge of the river is second to none and was great company for the day. Many laughs were had. Jimmy’s communication prior was great and the whole day was fantastic!!

As a couple of novice fly fishermen, our expectations were tentative, as everything we had heard about fly fishing made it daunting.

Cannot rate Jimmy highly enough.....He took time to ensure we understood the basics before we started, and then as we made our way down the beautiful Tumut river, 30km was more than enough....

More than enough to ensure that Jimmy then put us onto the fish, and we were even successful in landing a few of them as well.

Fantastic Day, we will definitely be back for round 2.

Had a couple of excellent sessions on the Tumut with Jimmy in his drift boat. His knowledge of the river and advice on where to position the cast was incredible. He is a great teacher/guide too and I have come away with a whole set of new fly fishing skills to use in the future. Highly recommended.

We recently took a beginner fly fishing lesson as a family—myself, my brother, and my 13-year-old son—and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish! Our instructor, Jimmy from Snowy Valley Fly Fishing, was fantastic, tailoring the session to suit all our different experience levels. Jimmy made sure we all felt comfortable and engaged.

The lesson covered everything from the basics of fly fishing gear, knot tying, and casting techniques. We were all surprised at how quickly we picked up the casting skills, thanks to Jimmy’s clear and patient guidance. He took time to demonstrate, then let us practice while offering helpful tips for improvement, making sure everyone was progressing at their own pace.

The setting was beautiful—peaceful and serene—which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The day culminated with all of us putting our learned skills into practice in the Goobarragandra River.

There were moments of laughter as we all fumbled through the casting process, but by the end of the day, we were all casting with much more confidence. My son especially loved the hands-on approach, and Jimmy was excellent at keeping him engaged while also helping my brother and me refine our skills.

It was a memorable day for all of us, and we walked away feeling more excited about fly fishing than ever. If you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly way to learn fly fishing, I can’t recommend Snowy Valley Fly Fishing enough! It was the perfect blend of education, enjoyment, and family bonding.
