I don't understand how this place has such high ratings. Everyone who works there is in high school, the place is run down, and the "amusements" we did were garbage. The ride on the Brig Tamar is a quick lap around a pond where the boat is pulled around on a rail. You get off on "Sarah's Island" to do the "ghost tour", which is a short walk around underground where you pass 4/5 doors with a couple of dodgy ghost recordings. We paid $40 for 3 of us to do good panning, there was no staff at the "mine", you could just walk on in and pan away. My son would have enjoyed some history of panning and some instructions, but it was just a wooden trough with some pebbles and some plastic pans tethered to the wall. Lastly we put a coin in for our son to drive the remote controlled pirate ship... The boat only turned left and he spent most of the 5 mins it lasted trying to get it off the wall. Could not recommend this place any less.

The Manager, whilst obviously spending a lot of time responding to my poor review, didn't actually address my gripes about the Tamar Brig "cruise" or the "gold mine panning". It's also laughable the story they've made up about "some other ladies commenting it is as clean and immaculate as Disneyland". One quick glance around and you'll see wheels fallen off wooden cannons, old faded paint on everything, and one of the screens on the "ghost tour" was so faded you couldn't even see it. The Captain on our "cruise" also had a massive hole in the crutch of her britches.

Read my other reviews, I'm honest. If something is good I will say so, in this case the entire experience was poor.

We had great fun rock climbing, zip lining and cliff walking and jumping.
Enjoyable and a good workout.
I have never done rock climbing, the staff were very helpful and supportive. Equipment was clean and well maintained.
The ziplines were very quick exhilarating.
The cliff walk gave great views out over the Tamar River basin and city.
We didn't have time for the other activities (ghost boat and old time displays).
A few of the unused attractions look interesting and with a bit of a clean up would be even better.
Value for money, I will spend a little more and stay a little longer next time.

I had a great evening at Penny Royal and made fond memories as well. It is the venue where I proposed to my girlfriend. Great staff and great ambience as well. The Fountain is picturesque.

AMAZING!! We had an absolutely great time at Penny Royal. We got there early Saturday morning and booked in to do the cliff walk and gold mining. Staff were super friendly and helpful. The cliff walk was awesome, the only negative - we wish it was longer, probably took us about 40mins to accomplish. The view from the top is beautiful. The gold mining was a little disappointing, there was no explanation of what to do and I’m not sure how often they refill the sand with precious stones and fools gold as we didn’t find much. However, I still fully recommend visiting, it’s well worth it!

It's ok but it's not a place to go when it rains. Recommend do not pre-purchase tickets is there is no need. Also the all pass tickets includes some things you would probably never do such as walking on stones and wood for $5, or panning for gold for $10.
