We came here for a birthday. The restaurant doesn't look much from the outside but inside it's like going back to the 1970s with Chinese decor and a large room. We were quite a big group, so I was worried about how long it would take to get our order. They were slow to start but from taking our orders things moved quickly. Service was great and the waiters were attentive and friendly. Food was very tasty with generous serves. Corkage at $2/drinker was also reasonable. They even wrapped a box of chocolates as a gift for the birthday girl. 👍

We had an 80th Birthday Dinner for 12 people.
Staff were very friendly and competent, food was delicious.
Very thoughtful management coming to table to personally wish my Mother a Happy Birthday.
Thank you New China Restaurant, we will definitely return.

Drove 45 minutes and due to recent dental work asked for our shared food to have the veggies cooked soft which is what they have done in the past without issue
Food arrived and the veggies in no way soft at all I raised the issue immediately and was told sorry and that was it
We ate what we could of the meals and left 3/4 of 2 plates due to not being able to chew the veggies and went to pay.
They had no issues charging full price and when I questioned why should I be charged full price when I specifically asked for something I did not receive I was told that they run a business and have to survive.
Nice to know that their business comes first and not the customer

Four of us had dinner here. The food and service was great! Friendly staff. They were extremely busy so it was a bit noisy but that can't be helped...

We had a fantastic meal at New Chinese. We rang ahead to secure a booking as we weren’t sure about density limits due to COVID. We also wanted to let them know in advance that we were coming in with a Seeing Eye Dog, and they secured a quiet table for us in the front corner.

The staff were friendly and down to earth. We ordered the Chef’s Recommended stewed pork, Nonya prawns, coconut rice and combination Hokkien Noodles.

All of our dishes were incredibly delicious and incorporated high quality ingredients with a focus on flavour.

I’ll definitely be back. What a Castlemaine gem!!

Hidden from the mainstream, this is a hidden gem. Perhaps a little pricey for a Chinese restaurant, you will not be disappointed by an extensive menu which, in addition to traditional fare, includes kangaroo and crocodile. Highly recommended

Very very helpful and friendly staff. Super cool decor and an aaaaamazing plant in reception. Rather pricey- we haven't eaten the food yet but hopefully its worth it! From the customer service point of view I will certainly be coming back.
Edit: the food was spectacular. It was heavenly. Probably the best Chinese I've ever eaten. Only one problem- the portions are reaaally small. Like way smaller than normal. So order more than you think!

It may not be the best Chinese food in Victoria but if you're looking for some great Chinese food that's quick, hot ,great service and very reasonably priced it is hard to go past this restaurant.
The Chinese sausage was excellent ,the beef dishes for main course were great and even, given the location, the seafood dishes were fresh and tasty
