Driving into Newman in October, I was pleasantly surprised to see everything so green. The visitor's centre was full of information, booking was easy, and the staff were super helpful. The tour bus was clean and had fantastic air conditioning. Watching a haul truck in action was definitely worth the price. You can hop out, explore the mine site at certain stages, and take as many photos as you like. There's a knowledgeable mine worker on the PA, so you always know what you're looking at. The whole site and operation are truly world-class. It's definitely worth checking out if you're in Newman or just passing through. Glad I did it.

A mine tour of the BHP Mt Whaleback mineisi available from the Newman Visitor Centre for $35 per adult.

The tour is conducted using a comfortable bus with a knowledgeable tour guide who has worked at the mine for many years.

The scale of the main iron ore pit (5km x 2km and 400 m deep) and the general mine operation is mind boggling.

Highly recommended.

The finest gatehouse this side, or any side, of Newman - The Paris of the Pilbara. Shared a delightful morning tea with a chap named Brendan when visiting - by far the most entertaining Security Officer there during my short stay.
Will certainly be sure to fly over it in the future.
