Visiting Mt. Stromlo Observatory on my own was a peaceful and awe-inspiring experience. The observatory’s domes, silhouetted against the night sky, created a truly magical atmosphere. Without any guides or staff, I had the chance to explore the area at my own pace, fully immersed in the tranquility of the surroundings.

The view of the stars from this location is phenomenal. The clear skies offered an incredible opportunity to appreciate the vastness of the universe, making it a perfect spot for stargazing or astrophotography. The quiet solitude added to the charm, making the experience even more personal and reflective.

Not a lot of astronomical input if the centre and cafe are closed. Check the internet for opening hours.
When closed you can see a number of the old style observatory domes as the facility was 100 years old in 2024.
Good views of Canberra and the ACT, but you have to walk to find viewing points.
Not an ideal place for the very elderly to visit, unless they are in a wheelchair.

Sadly the visitor Centre is not open at the moment and there is no timetable on when it might reopen. You can still walk the grounds and look at the burnt out buildings. There's nice views and the gardens are pleasant.
