Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is a fantastic spot for a one-day getaway to unwind and recharge. Whether you’re looking to escape the city for a few hours or spend a peaceful day surrounded by nature, this place delivers a refreshing experience every time. We’ve visited across all four seasons, and each season brings its own charm and atmosphere—from the vibrant blossoms of spring to the crisp serenity of winter.

One of the highlights is spotting wallabies and kangaroos in their natural habitat. It’s always a joy to see them hopping around, adding a touch of wild beauty to the surroundings. The Rhododendron Garden is particularly stunning when in bloom, but even outside its peak season, the greenery and layout make it worth exploring.

It’s a great place for a dry picnic, so be sure to bring your own food, drinks, and a picnic rug, mat, or towel. There are plenty of open areas to sit back, relax, and enjoy a meal amidst peaceful scenery. Whether you’re going solo, as a couple, or with family and friends, the atmosphere is calm, welcoming, and ideal for some quality downtime.

Highly recommended for nature lovers and anyone needing a quick refresh without venturing too far.

What a beautiful place! I was looking to go for a walk and unwind in nature, and this spot was absolutely perfect. We explored several walking trails, and the duck pond was probably my favourite part. It’s also an ideal location for a picnic.

We had a lovely day at Mount Lofty Botanic Garden! The views are absolutely breathtaking, and the walking trails are perfect for anyone who loves nature. We explored the different garden sections, from the cool-climate plants to the beautiful native species, and it was all so peaceful. Our little one had a blast running around and exploring while we enjoyed the tranquillity. The well-maintained paths and informative signs made it easy to navigate and learn about the plants. It is a perfect spot for a family outing or a quiet day in nature!

Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is a stunning escape nestled in the Adelaide Hills, offering a peaceful retreat into nature.
The garden features beautifully curated landscapes, winding paths, and an impressive variety of cool-climate plants, including vibrant rhododendrons and majestic trees.
Autumn is especially breathtaking, with the foliage turning vivid shades of red, orange, and gold.
Whether you're a nature lover, photographer, or just seeking a tranquil walk, it's a must-visit destination.
Just make sure to wear comfy shoes—the terrain can be quite hilly!

Fall in the mount Lofty. The climate change makes the fall and the tree colour transition is not complete. Hopefully it will get more yellow and red later this April. Nice weather and many people visit the place today. Crowdy but still a fascinating place to visit.

I went to Mount Lofty Botanic Garden on 2025 Australia Day, which fell on a Sunday. The car park requires parking fees on weekdays and Saturday, but free for parking on Sunday.

It was quite hot, something like 37°C during the early afternoon of our visit. I walked one round of Lakeside Loop which was mostly shaded so still ok. I walked around 30 minutes to finish the Lakeside Loop so it was a very easy walk.

I saw people were enjoying picnics underneath the tree crown, so it must be quite cool even in hot summer. I also saw a Kangaroo but it was alone and no company. I used to see Kangaroo in a group so I was a bit curious why just one was seen on that day.

I believe the best time to visit this botanic garden is Autumn as you can see beautiful Autumn leaves and the temperature will be lower so more pleasurable.

Re-visited on 27 April for colourful leaves. Some more photos are shared.
