Passing Minskys last week I saw the Sunday roast $25 sign out the front. Knowing my husband loves a Sunday roast I booked a table & requested a booth. When we arrived our request had been filled ( thank you ) which made me smile. From the very beginning of our visit to when we left the vibe was great we felt very welcome. Bar staff were engaging and friendly. The food servers attentive and helpful. ( we asked about some delicious looking meal names we had seen passing our table to other patrons.) The food - good servings, very filling and oh sooo good.Husband had the roast beef & I couldn’t go past a chicken schnitzel. We waited a little bit before we ordered desert - we had apple crumble & sticky date pudding. both topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream - YUM! We will be back to try some of the other dishes we saw passing our table.

Disappointed. Live locally, my son had suggested we try Minsky’s out. Plenty of screens for sports watching and a good crowd when we were there. Encountered 3 issues: (a) Bar staff not knowledgeable - I asked for a “mid strength beer” - was told they only had full strength or 0%. I pointed to the Cascade Premium Light in the cabinet (which I know is mid strength) and was told “no that’s nil alcohol”, said in a way like you don’t know what you are talking about…despite it sitting next to the Cascade 0% and clearly being different. Luckily another bar tender overheard and suggested Pacific Ale; (b) Tables all fully occupied or empty but with reserved signs on them…that’s ok if people have yet to arrive but in many cases reserved signs showed the table had been reserved for 1-2 hours before we arrived and was still empty, either the people had not turned up or they had come and gone and staff hadn’t removed the sign which is frustrating (we just sat at a table with reserved for “name” at 6pm, it was 7.30pm, no-one turned up saying it was theirs by the time we left at 8.30pm); (c) worst steak I have had in a long time - ordered medium rare, came out cooked right through, dry. Didn’t enjoy it at all.

The staff member who brought the food out was very helpful, going to collect cutlery and condiments - when ordering no one had said we need to collect our own.

Overall for a few beers and to watch some sport it’s probably ok, but if you want a better experience go to the Oaks or the MOHO.

The beef burger was delicious and full of flavour. Great portion size for the price, making it excellent value. Would definitely recommend.

The atmosphere wasn't bad - not too loud, and we easily got a table tonight (Saturday). Good drinks selection. I ordered my usual for when I first try a pub - chicken parmigiana. There were plenty of fries and a great aoli for dipping. The finely cut slaw was nice. The chicken looked beautiful - crispy with generous toppings. However once I cut into the chicken, I realised it was very overcooked. It was hard to cut and the whole piece of chicken kind of fell out of the schnitzel while I tried. I managed to eat half of it, but even that was a struggle. Such a shame because the sauce and cheese were very good. It would be top marks from me if the chicken was cooked right.

This is a great place to go for drinks after work, and your first step to going out on a Friday or Saturday night. Their salt and pepper squid is the best I've ever had. It can get a bit loud but that's all part of the atmosphere with everyone enjoying themselves.

My partner, a few friends, and I came here for lunch on the weekend. We watched the rugby match and tried the weekly specials. The weather was perfect, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was great. I've been here a few times, and I always come back! 😊
