What an incredible spot! My recent visit to Merewether Surfhouse was unforgettable. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by stunning beach views and the calming sound of the ocean. We ordered both the fish and the steak, and they were perfectly cooked—flavorful, tender, and absolutely delicious. The service was top-notch as well; everyone was friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome. Being right next to the Merewether Ocean Baths added an extra touch of coastal charm. Overall, it was a fantastic experience that left me with wonderful memories. Highly recommended!

I loved having a glass of wine at sunset on the terrace. What a beautiful Newcastle!

I came here for business, and I really like the city. The walk from Bar beach to this surf house is stunning.

The service at the bar could be better—the guy was a bit rude, but I’ll forgive him. I imagine it’s a matter of age, though at his age, I was a bit kinder.

That said, I really enjoyed the experience overall!

Great location with fantastic views. We enjoyed the meal (although one chicken dish was undercooked and chef was made aware). The long table next to us was a party of young women who were very raucous but enjoying themselves. It was a Saturday night, after all!

The 3-5 pm specials are lovely. It is such a beautiful place to unwind after a swim in the ocean baths with a cocktail on such a beautiful Australia Day.

Cafe is always popular among morning runners, walkers and swimmers. Facilities are always clean and plenty of street parking. Night events have a beautifully lit room with an outlook over the ocean.

Top spot for a visit, swim, dine and dog friendly also, just not on the beach itself.

It’s very expensive for what you get, the Battered Barramundi is frozen and not fresh yet you’re paying a premium of $27 (I actually think it wasn’t even Barramundi). The serving of chips is very small. Ordering is arduous with only one person on the bar taking orders and making the drinks. The Prawn Tostada is just a corn chip, a dollop of unflavoured avocado, a prawn and a squeeze of sauce which I assume is the mango but lacked flavour.
The views are great, so really that’s what you’re paying for. It was nice to try but I won’t be returning. The coffee was also nice.
