This place has it all! It’s surrounded by beautiful nature and has comfortable rooms for an affordable price. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We booked for 1 week but end up staying 2. Definitely coming back soon. Thank you for having us!

I originally planned to stay 1 night however I end up staying for 4 nights and the reason why is this place is awesome! The staff are super friendly and helpful the facilities are up there with one of the best hostels have stayed in and the area is amazing !!!!' So many wineries all free wine tasting I feel like you need a month to see them all. Will definitely come again. Only thing I can fault this place is that you have to pay for wifi other than that a must stay.

My wife and I visited McLaren Vale overnight en route to Adelaide to sample some of the region's famed wineries. We were very pleasantly surprised with our experience in this well run hostel. We had originally booked a four bed dorm, however we were given a private double room, with no additional charge, when we asked about this on arrival. We were also provided with washing powder free of charge from the friendly and laid back staff. Our room was small but functional. The hostel is extremely well located, only a few hundred metres from the Shiraz Trail, with many wineries within walking distance. Supermarket just around the corner, and there is a very large kitchen to cook in with plenty of space.||It should be called out this is a backpackers with some longer term guests who are working in the region, which didn't bother us at all but worth being aware of before booking. We would recommend this place to others travelling on a budget in the region.

I loved this place. I originally wanted to stay 3 weeks and after I landed a job in a winery ended up staying 4 months. The hostel is a great place to make friends and find work in the region. The only thing that is negative about the place is that you have to pay for the internet, other than that would highly recommend staying here. Cheers Simon

Pretty poor hostel for the money they are charging. Kitchen is constantly dirty and just way too small. The fridges are not enough as well. Overall the hostel feels like it is overbooked.

Worst part is that staff is taking advantage of you. They promise work, they get you to come as soon as possible to the hostel to secure a place, and then you wait for 6 weeks....

Staff willl always find the problem somewhere else and tells you to wait another week and so on.
Solution would be simple: Only tell people to come when the farmers asking for workers. And not just because work could start sometimes in the next 6 weeks.

Great newly refurbished Backpacker Hostel. The staff is very welcoming, helpful and will talk you through everything you need to know about jobs and activities in the area.

All types of travelers are welcome here, a relaxed and friendly home away from home.

We were originally going to stay only few weeks but ended up staying few months.

Can't recommend enough, excellent stay!

I would give this place 0 stars if I could .Arrived on the false promise there would be work starting on the vineyards on the 24th of January after checking in and doing some research , found out that it was lies. The reception is hardly open and the staff have a serious lack of people’s skills. I have met some good people at the hostel and everyone said that same thing, false promises and lies. If the staff were truthful about the vintage season I may have had some respect but in fact they lie to fill the beds for a hostel that seems to have lost its touch.
The kitchen was never clean , there was a cleaner who come in and wiped surfaces and hoovered but there was always sinks full of dishes and a rotten food everywhere. This hostel is full of nice backpackers but that’s where the niceties end. Avoid at all costs unless your fancy picking strawberries in a near by farm that are rounound for exploitation. And the vans provided are death traps, between lights hanginnoff brakes failing and doors hanging off your better off staying where you are. I have no doubt the manager will reply saying it’s all lies however feel free to contact anyone at the hostel for an honest opinion.

I came to Australia middle of October for wwoofing. After it turned out that the first farm I was working for was a total failure, I was really happy when I arrived at McLaren Vale Backpacker Hostel. I was sleeping in a 10 bed room for $ 28 per night. The bed was really comfortable, the kitchen was quite big and well equipped (enough pans, plates and cutlery, big fridges, ...), there was a TV in the "living room", you can sit outside and enjoy your meal or a café. ||The hostelmanager were really cooperative, especially Perry. He has a lot of contacts to the farmer in this area and he helped me all the time to find a job. ||||I had a great time there and I can absolutely recommend the hostel.
