Wonderful food. Great service. Went there last night for one of the best Italian meals we have ever had. This restaurant has always been great. They’ve perfected the arancini dish, every component compliments each other. Calamari fritti is the highlight as usual. Love how they never overcook them. The shellfish bisque is really aromatic, loved it! I’d love to try it with other kind of pastas with prawns etc. as well. Overall the food here is top notch!!!

They have many innovative yummy cocktails. I have tried coconut margarita and the strawberry amaretto sour, they both were amazing!!! Market St Basement is my most favourite restaurant in Newcastle.

Wow we both were blown away by the fabulous food we had at The Basement @Newcastle!
The staff are exceptional especially Caitlin, the Atmosphere very cozy but the food was superb!
I had the seafood spaghetti which was excellent and Art had the gnocchi, Which was the best we’ve ever had!
We recommend this place to anyone looking for great Italian food.

The food is mostly vegetarian with only a few meat dishes, but their pumpkin pizza is amazing with just the right amount of spicy kick. And love the Arrabbiata pasta yum, My girlfriend absolutely loved their lychee cocktail – she couldn’t stop praising it! The restaurant has such a lovely setup, and the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. I also love the interior; it has a beautiful, inviting atmosphere. Overall, it’s a fantastic place!

Very first time in Newcastle, and we just had to check out one of the best Italian Restaurants. The overall ambiance was very welcoming and vibrant. Photos do not do this place justice (go experience this for yourself). I will say, at the very beginning we were asked ( Still or Sparkling Water) to we replied with, Sparkling ( know that at the end of our night we were charged without knowing $5 for that bottle of Sparkling water).

My wife and I had the distinct pleasure of dining at The Basement on New Year's Eve. We had been eager to try their menu for a while and were thrilled to get a booking to see out 2023 on a high. We were not disappointed. We arrived 15 minutes early but our host gladly found us a table. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful, explaining the menu and making suggestions when required. Even when not waiting on us, they would acknowledge us with a smile and generally made us feel welcome and catered for. For the entire 2 hours we were there and considering how busy it was, they never made us feel rushed to 'eat, drink and go'

As for the food and the accompanying wine choices, they were top-notch. The food was beautifully plated and delicious. The portion sizes were perfect and we left completely satisfied. We will definitely be back. Bravo!

I should have written this review months ago, but the thought of going back is still so strong!

I only spent one evening there, and the fact that it was my last evening of a short weekend makes me even sadder!

The atmosphere is magical, the staff is welcoming, and the manager (young, energetic, and talented) doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to precision and hospitality!

The chef—oh, the chef—opened my heart and made me fall in love with Newcastle. His kind heart and appreciation for cooking and natural ingredients are a story that makes you feel at home!

Of course, I tried the Sicilian prawns and the pizza—simple but so good that you could eat three more! Meeting the young (and very talented!) pizzaiolo moved me deeply, bravo!

Still grateful for the bottle of oil and the recommended whiskey!

We went here for date night and it was such an enjoyable evening. Our server was incredible and even got me a blanket for my lap when I was cold. The food, drinks and atmosphere were just wonderful. Can’t fault our experience!
