We re-walked the Fort walking trail as we wanted to see koalas. We started earlier this time and saw the sunrise. Koala seen around 7.15am just getting cosy for his tree. Super cute.

More photos showing good walking paths and stairs. Remember to take a hat and water with good walking shoes.

The island boasts the biggest gathering of koala bears in the world, totalling some 800. There is ample opportunity for walks, drives, beach activities and places to stay as well.

There is so much to do, I suggest you plan to spend 2-3 nights on the island. We brought our own vehicle which was useful as we could then traverse the island at our own pace.

There are some breathtaking views at almost every point on the island. There are bars and restaurants as well as beaches and coves in which you can relax.

Sights, smells and sounds are captivating and while probably not unique to the island, are quite amazing. As I found throughout Australia, the people are friendly and welcoming.

It should be called Magical Island with so many beautiful beaches, snorkling areas, hiking paths where you see koalas in the wild, cafes, restaurants, all styles of accommodation and multiple paid tours to help you explore this amazing place. Only a 30min boat ride from Townsville.

Amazing views from the Fort lookout and it had well marked track. It's very easy to get around the island however getting your own car is better than waiting for bus. Hiring a small car from the rental company next to IGA was a better choice compared to the topless cars. It's secure and provides protection from insects and rain
