Floor and couch probably needed a little vac. But the rest of the stay was great. Dean was a great to talk to and very approachable. The veiw from the second floor was great.

Looking at the history of the place and architectural design of the building makes you really think how it used to be like when it was used. The staircases were able to be locked from the inside. Would come back again for sure.

Art Deco May oversell it a bit but Dean is very welcoming and friendly. Rooms are warm and comfortable and the bed left us well rested. The lounge areas near the lifts add charm and while we didn’t get to use them would be a nice place to read a book and relax. Would happily stay again.

On a positive note the bed was comfortable and the linen was clean. However, we have been there a few times over the years, and I can't believe how dirty it was this time! There were linen bags strewn across the floor in the hallways for most of the weekend. When they finally were moved, there were a couple of dead spiders and cockroaches under them, so I'm not sure how long they had been there. The floor in our room hadn't been vacuumed in what looked like months. The window sills were so dusty, I actually had to clean them (photo below of just one window sill cleaned). Even the coffee table looked like it hadn't been wiped for weeks (see image). I understand that some places are a bit sad and run down, and that is fine. We are not snobs. However, there is no excuse for not doing the most basic cleaning.

Stayed here whilst exploring the asylum and gaol. This accommodation used to be the nurses quarters for the asylum. This hotel doesn't look or feel new and that's a large part of the charm.
Spacious rooms, amazing vintage decor throughout and was clean.
I spoke to a nurse that lived there in the 70's. She said the reinforced fire doors were to keep men out at night.
Deano, the host, is a salt of the earth kind of guy that was very helpful. Highly recommend staying here. I also recommend doing the ghost tour at the Asylum which is an easy walking distance.

It was a different experience. 😅 The motel reminded me of an old nursing home / hospital. Only thing missing in the room was a call bell. The hallway was a bit creepy, the lift was slow, could literally hear kids running from the top floor. The room was neat and tidy, pillows and bed comfy, flat screen tv, no aircon but there was a fan and nice lush environment outside. The receptionist/manager was full of tattoos but don't be intimated, he was nice and friendly. I liked our stay. Would recommend to anyone who wants to experience a different kind of accommodation. BTW, the room and toilet were very spacious.

Stepping back to the Art deco era was a great experience at the very well priced accommodation. The grounds around the motel are definitely worth taking a walk around with a stunning variety of old trees and plants, designed and planted by Hugh Linaker! Deano was very helpful and the rooms comfortable with AC that was needed as it was hot for our 2 night stay. Would recommend.

the place was clean and tidy. nothing spectacular but for 125 for the night it was good value. has a semi renovated bathroom and nice areas on the 2 top floors for a sit down or drink. location is good and the host deano is a very nice man. take a few moments to have a chat to him.

Rooms are spacious and clean. Wifi didn’t work at all and communal areas like stairs and hallway could have been a bit tidier and cleaner but overall ok if you want to explore area and good value for money
