The gateway pub is a beautiful venue in the lovely town of Kimba. It serves high quality counter meals with extensive dining areas including a very large beautifully decorated separating dining area, which I had all to myself. I ordered a bottle of Coonawarra Shiraz and a T bone steak (cooked rare). The meal was absolutely delicious (as was the garlic bread). However, having paid for the meal upfront at the counter I asked the bar staff for another garlic bread and was advised this should be ok but the kitchen will be closing soon. 20 minutes or so later I asked if my garlic bread was still coming and was told - No you didn’t pay at the bar and the kitchen is now closed. REALLY? I just paid you a hundred dollars already on the meal and wine. If the establishment is that pedantic about upfront payment they should make this very clear to the customer when speaking to them at their meal table (which they did not). Further, while noting I had already paid in full for the meal and just wanted one more side dish, any reasonable establishment would not hesitate to serve this and charge at the end in these circumstances. Essentially it was clear to me the staff did not care one iota about the customer and were just focusing on closing up for the night. But for this poor service experience, I would have given this pub four stars for what was actually good quality food and wine.

Great place to break up travel. Rooms are very dated but it still has some charm. Great food ar the restaurant too. Breakfast (continental) provided.

Lovely place for a stop over for the night. The manager was friendly and welcoming. Has a pub too for meals. Room was clean and neat with AC. Provided a take away breakfast package to hit the road early. Many thanks!

Very poor accomodation, bed mattress was old and worn , sinking in the middle , shower head was dribbling and leaking, remote control did not work for tv , old carpet and worn curtains . I contacted the hotel with these issues and was told if guests didn’t bring these faults to their attention they didn’t know ! As a business you have a responsibility to paying guests to provide adequate functioning accommodation. Avoid this place

The service was efficient enough and the meal was great although all the food was a little over priced. The real shocker was the $30 for one beer and one wine. This really is not a place you can go and relax and have a couple of drinks with friends.

Stayed overnight in room 4 while travelling East to West. Made a last minute booking as were weren't sure how far we would travel that day. We were given a room in the two storey motel section behind the main hotel. Small room, even smaller bathroom. Air-con worked well and the shower was hot. Room was clean and the bed comfortable. Okay for a quick overnighter. Breakfast pack included in the price - cereal, apple and a fruit juice. Friendly and efficient service by Kayla - thank you. The rooms in the main hotel look to be much nicer.

We stayed in room 28 for one night.|The room was just ok. Difficult to heat despite heating being on full. Shower was dreadful, no hot or cold water pressure.|Carpets had not been cleaned well. It was rated as 4 star and was priced accordingly.|Keep driving!! Bad value

The hotel provided a great experience, especially for my first visit to this town. You can book the room in the pub and reliable for a motel room. At $149 per night, the room was clean, cozy, and quiet. The car park was well-organized, including the bin area, which was impressive. The pub also served excellent food. Highly recommended! Thank you the staff was work hard and friendly.
