This was our first snow trip and it definitely didn't disappoint. We live in Newcastle NSW and we have 3 kids aged 7,8,& 10. We visited in the last week of July. The kids did 2 days of ski lessons and 2 days of free skiing at Big D. They loved every minute and they wouldn't let us leave until the lifts stopped for the day. My wife and I did a couple of 2hr lessons which was enough for us to feel comfortable on the blue runs.
We had 40cm of snow while we were there and the runs were well groomed.
The lift staff and instructors were very helpful, (with it being our first time).
We tried 2 of the restaurants, which were great and the cafe at Big D was average but not bad.
If you get there before 9am, close parking is pretty easy to find and if U get there later the bus that runs around to the different runs is very good and has lots of stops.
We also met the amazing people at howling huskies and the kids had a dog sled ride. Most of their dogs are rescues which is cool.
The only downside is the price. We got gifted accommodation from my parents as a Christmas present at Wyndham and borrowed ski clothes for the kids from friends, but with 4 days lift passes, 2 days of lessons, ski, boot and helmet hire, park entry and snow chain hire it was about $6000, so it may be a few years before we get back.
Overall I think we have caught the bug and will definitely visit Hotham again.

My first time in the snow at Mt Hotham. I love it and such a great experience with my first taste of skiing which was fun. This year it's been perfect with lots of snow even more snow than Mt Buller ?. Accommodation is at Bright but still a nice drive to the snow for the very first time. They have everything from a grocery store to resorts pretty much people can live on the mountain ?. A definite worth to come back every year during the winter season.

Really easy to get around the mountain, and the drivers are so polite. Great staff makes the lines super functional. Maybe a tricky mountain for beginners, as there's limited green runs, but I had a blast in both groups and private lessons on summit

Perhaps we came too late—this year’s ski season has been unusually short. At this point, only a few runs are open, and the snow conditions are poor. Both beginners and advanced skiers are packed onto just a couple of slopes, which makes it hard to fully enjoy the skiing experience.

Snow wasn't the best this year at the time we went (early July) but regardless we still had fun skiing and eating at all the nice restaurants. We also stayed in bright for the four days which made the accomadation alot cheaper 🙂

Hotham is our favourite snow field in Australia. They have the better of the ski schools in aus as they have the big D and the kids learn to use a chair lift very early.
It's was far from a great season, but no one can control the weather.

Great place for snow adventures. Bus shuttles to travel from one point to another.
