What a hidden gem. Unfortunately it takes a few kilometres taking a dirt road to get here but that keeps the crowds out. We visited Halls Gap during school holidays and the town was like Melbourne CBD but there was nobody except us at the quarry. An interesting piece of history, a peaceful 1.2km return walk and a beautiful scenery. Quite under rated.

A piece of Victorian history from the 1800s. This is the quarry where they mined the stone for buildings in Melbourne such as the gpo, state library, Parliament House and many others much closer to the site. There are remains of the buildings, cranes and the boiler used in the mining operation. It’s a nice walk, not too long but definitely take some water if it’s over 25c.

Interesting little place hidden away in some bush land, but a rich piece of history. It was great to see some of the old machinery and the huts.

From the lower car park its a 1.2 kilometre walk uphill increasing incline towards the end Take water on warmer days The other reviews are accurate just be aware your in the bush and watch for snakes The main track is reasonably wide but some are dead end paths. That said everything d reasonably close and signposted with information The railway was a surprise One has to admire the workers of the day it was tough work Well worth the diversion

Well maintained car park & walking track up to the relics - not too far & an easy walk. Lots of old machinery dotted around & some vacant buildings to look in.

Great place to revisit grassroots history given stone from here was used locally as well as in Melbourne. NP doing prep for new signage which the guys tell me should be completed by mid year.
