Just finished an amazing Edoras/Mount Sunday tour hosted by Natasha today. 100% worth the price if you like The Lord of the Rings.
Even if you don’t, the scenery is beautiful. But you will no doubt appreciate the experience more having watched the movies.
On the ride to and from, you hear insights, stories and anecdotes about the production of the movie and the location, a lot I’ve never heard before because they come from friends of the guide who worked on the movies.
A few of the stories are quite funny as well.
You also hear about the natural history of the land.
The scale and size of Edoras is deceiving, when you get close to it, it is massive and bigger than you would think.
The shots in the movies or any picture online don’t prepare you for how much grand the location is in person.
When hiking the mountain I had to take a few breaks cause of asthma.
Natasha was very considerate and cared for everyone’s welfare though and checked in on me, at no time did I feel rushed.
The hike itself isn’t hard or take very long to summit. But the altitude and asthma hit me like a rock, never had an attack in a very long time as well, came out of nowhere halfway up the mountain.
So asthma sufferers out there, do the tour, just make sure you take your reliever, take your time climbing up and take breaks.
For lunch Natasha brought us to a spot overlooking Edoras/Mount Sunday - was the perfect location just to admire the scenery.
They have lawn/picnic chairs you can sit on. Sandwiches, fruit, cake, water, juice and wine were served.
The experience was worth it, we were lucky we got the perfect guide to show us Edoras as well.
It is a long day though. Was picked up at 9am got back to the hotel around 7pm.
A few bathroom breaks, one 30 minute stop at the Stavely Store/Cafe in Stavely for morning tea, + a couple of extra sightseeing stops on the way to Edoras.
Also note, Edoras/Mount Sunday is a very very windy area ?️
