Gory’u Japanese Garden – A Peaceful Japanese Escape in Australia

Walking into Gory’u Japanese Garden feels like stepping into a little piece of Japan. Everything is beautifully done with care and authenticity, creating a calm and peaceful vibe. The owners were warm and welcoming—one of them even explained the meaning behind the garden’s name and the thoughtful touches throughout, which made our visit feel more personal and memorable.

The garden is stunning. The walking path is easy and relaxing, with lovely surprises around every corner. We visited during autumn, and the colours were incredible—vibrant reds, golds, and deep maroons. It felt like we were walking through a real-life painting.

There are benches placed here and there, perfect for sitting down, taking a breath, and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. It’s clear the owners have put a lot of love and effort into this place.

The best times to go are during early autumn, spring, or summer when everything is blooming and colourful. There’s also a small nursery where you can buy plants and take a little bit of the garden home with you.

For just around $16, it’s great value and a perfect spot for nature lovers, photographers, or anyone needing a quiet break.

The gardens are so gorgeous and feel exactly like they are in Japan! The owners are so lovely and helped us out much when we were stuck without a way back to the station. Thank you so much!

Absolutely gorgeous gardens - we loved our visit and can’t wait to come back for the nursery and spring wisteria. So peaceful and lovely foliage! Very well-kept and landscaped beautifully ❤️

We had a great garden experience here. It is well worth a visit.
It was so interesting to stroll the various types of Japanese gardens, laid out around their massive pond. The owners know their topic, have created a lovely garden, and willingly discuss it with passion.
Extensive plant nursery.
Location: Set down a country lane. Access: off street parking for cars, not trailers. Not wheelchair and pram friendly. Not particular kid friendly.
There is a reasonable entrance fee; EFTPOS. Informative colour brochure.
Plan: No shelter from rain, wind, sun. We did not see any toilets, water bubblers . It may not be easy if muddy.

Our family happened to stumble on the his hidden gem. We met Alan who gave us a small introduction and explanation to his wonderful creation. His passion and vision combined with his years of hard work, labour of love and dedication only made us appreciate this place even more. We will definitely be back in spring to see the garden it all it’s beauty.

Best $20 I've spent! It sounds steep but this garden is an enormous work of living, breathing art. The detail and scale and views and diversity are incredible. The investment of money and time visiting here goes to maintain and further improve the gardens for future years
