Great day fishing with Tomas (who is definitely not racist as per stupid comment in a previous review). We fished in the river because the wind was too high to go to the reef. Thomas very quickly put us on some fish using fresh bait caught around the ramp. 3 on the boat had a ball. We caught fingermarks, grunter, mangrove Jack, queenfish, bream, cod. kept plenty to eat. Tom was very friendly and helpful. The gear supplied was perfect. Back at the ramp, he filleted all our fish. Overall a great value fishing charter. Great fun!

Great morning on the water with Thomas from Gone Fishing. Too windy to go the reef, so we went up the Endeavour River. Thomas’s expert knowledge of the local area put us immediately onto the fish. Mangrove Jack, Fingermark, Queenies, Estury Cod, Trevally and of course the very hungary Barracuda. Some nice keepers. A big thank you to Thomas who kept our lines continuously in the water and also kept us entertained.

Yesterday my husband and I did a full day fishing charter out of Cooktown with Gone Fishing. We met the owner and skipper Thomas at the Cooktown boat ramp at 0730 along the other another couple who were joining us for the day as well. Blessed with the best weather in several months we were quickly crossing the mouth of the Endeavor river headed to the entrance and some broken reef structure was found with the sounder. We caught a couple of lovely Coral trout and a keeper Grassy Emporer. Plenty of other reef fish as well which we let go and a small hammerhead gave the other guests some fun on their rod.There were turtles galore popping up all around us throughout the morning and the scenery was spectacular . At lunchtime as the trade winds started we motored back to the wharf for a quick bathroom stop and grabbed some lunch from the kiosk while our skipper restocked our live well and we then headed up the Endeavor river to chase Barramundi , Mangrove Jack and Fingermark. Unfortunately not much action up the river but Thomas refused to give in and moved us from spot to spot. At 4pm we were back at the wharf where Thomas expertly filleted our fish and we took them home to enjoy. When you are in Cooktown don’t just go Fishing….. go Catching with Thomas and Gone Fishing Charters !!

Tommie is the BOM.COM! Best fishing day ever! On top of being a full time legend he took us to the most amazing hot spots. We caught fish for days, he was so on to it putting bait on our hooks boom boom boom, no time to be waisted! Filleted them all, bagged them up, straight in the fridge and even advised on best way to cook em up! Wawawiwa! As a team of women we felt so comfortable with him <3 Can’t wait to reconnect! Even when I was slacking off he’d let me know when my rod was poppin’ Legend! (Would add photos of the huge loot but my mate got em)

Tommy was an absolute legend !!!!! The TRUE Cooktown experience. Where local knowledge meets professionalism. Honestly couldn’t fault him. He took us to all the honey holes and everyone went home with fillets. Yew!

We had the best day of fishing I’ve ever had in Australia, catching a stack of coral trout and many other species. Our guide Pez aka Captain Red Beard was great company and looked after us well. He was clearly an accomplished fisherman and was happy to share his knowledge with us. It was an exciting and fun day of fishing.

When we first turned up knowing we were going reef fishing we were a bit worried about the boat size and side height, we went about 40 minutes to a reef spot and had the most amazing time, Tom found us some Spanish mackerel, Northern Tuna, Queen fish just to name a few, it did cut up rough on the return trip, we were a bit wet on return but at no time did we feel unsafe, we would do it again in a heartbeat and yes I was out fished by my wife

Thomas guided us a few times late last year. His fishing knowledge was outstanding and he is an all round great guy!
We caught a full variety of species ranging from Queenfish, Coral Trout to Spanish Mackerel and even a Sailfish!!
I’ll be heading back this year and can’t wait to go fishing with Gone Fishing!
