I first heard of Getaway on facebook back in 2018 and they were promoting a Kokoda trip. So I thought, sounds fun, so I booked it.
Off I went in late 2018 and I had a great time. I learnt a lot and made a new bunch of friends. We weren’t even back in Australia and a few of us were already talking about our next adventure. I got home and booked my next trip which was the Mont Blanc trail which I did in 2019.
Then Covid hit and slowed everything down but once the dust settled I then did the Larapinta trail which was in 2022.
After that in 2023 I did the Morocco trip and this year completed the Coast to Coast across England.
It was on this trip that I had a very sore knee but Mike and Deb supported me which helped get me through.
I’ve now completed 5 trips with Getaway and all have been different but all very enjoyable
I’m not stopping and are keen for my next adventure.

Our pilgrimage on the Aussie Camino was great!!
We were looked after very well right throughout the trip.
Our guide was excellent. He paced the days very well and always let us know in advance what to expect.
The best part was the fabulous people that were on the walk, and that Getaway Trekking seems top have a knack of attracting to these walks.

I recently completed the Kokoda Trek with GetAway Trekking, and it was an unforgettable experience. Our guide, Laurie, was incredible—his leadership was inspirational, and he provided an authentic and deep understanding of Kokoda’s history. The communication from GetAway Trekking was outstanding. Deb, the owner, was always responsive and went above and beyond to answer all our questions. The whole experience was fantastic, and I highly recommend anyone considering the Kokoda trek to choose GetAway Trekking.

In July this year, I completed the 16-day UK Coast to Coast hike (Wainwright Way) with Getaway Trekking. It was a fabulous trip, with a perfect sized group of 15, expertly led by Getaway owners, Deb & Mike. The hike takes you through beautiful countryside, 3 National Parks with accommodation pre-arranged at quaint little English hotels and inns. Highly recommend for anyone who likes a very well organized and adventurous hiking trip.

My favorite adventures start with a packing list of clothes and gear with a well thought out itinerary supervised by professional tour guides. I am from the USA and have been on two epic adventures with this Australian based company. The first to Papua New Guinea and the second to Morocco. I am not a discount traveler but I do appreciate the value which far exceeds any adventure I could plan for myself. This crew takes the guess work out of planning and they are prepared for every contingency. The porters/carriers are well supplied, friendly and treated like travel partners. The guides are professional, knowledgeable and teachers in the field. Geaux if you can!

We went to Morocco with Deb & Mike from Getaway in June 2023. It was an amazing 2 part trip. The first half being hiking through the Atlas High Mountains with a local guide & support crew with Mules to help carry all the equipment including kitchen tent, dinning tent & sleeping tents. The hiking was breathtakingly beautiful with some large passes each day & amazing food throughout. We sumitted Mt Toubkal (4165M) as the pinnacle of the hike. The 2nd part of the trip was based on more of a tradition small bus tour seeing the wonders of Marrakech, Quarzazate, Western Sahara, Fes, Chefchaouen, Rabat & Casablanca. Truely an amazing experience & highly recommend to anyone thinking of doing similar trip.

Unforgettable Morocco
Morocco was nothing short of unforgettable as a travel destination. The care shown by Getaway trekking and our local tour guides, in curating both a hiking adventure alongside a luxury tour around Morocco’s amazing landmarks and landscapes made this trip a magical experience.
The hiking component was culturally enriching, moving through the high Atlas Mountains and staying in Berber lodges added to the experience. The undulating terrain of varying landscapes throughout the hike was breathtaking, finishing with a summit of North Africa’s highest peak, Mount Toubkal.
The following 7-day bus tour explored some of the most unique places on earth including: the blue city (Chefchaouen) the Sahara desert where we rode camels into our luxury tent accomodation, Marrakech, Fes, Casablanca and Rabat. The warm and welcoming hospitality of the local guides and locals was the most incredible experience of all. A once in a lifetime opportunity, not to be missed.

What a wonderful adventure we had. Deb and Mike our guides were amazing. Everything was so well organised. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They looked after us like parents. Making sure we drank enough fluid and dressing our blisters. It was my first trek and I know it won’t be my last.
