Nice country track. Offers all the amenities of the big city and much more than the other Provincials. Pretty place, they obviously care. An abundance of flowers in bloom which is a trademark of racing.

Attended a community fund-raising event. The facilities were clean and the parking ample. There was a dead pigeon outside the window, but that happens.

Attended Saturday thoroughbred race meeting a the Gawler track for the first time since the 70's. Apart from the lack of signage that meant I had missed the correct entry point and doubling back as soon as possible is the only way to go rather than heading up a one way track to a dead end and then having to do a ten point turn between the track perimeter fence and railway yard to get back on track. Once I finally got there I was presently surprised by the facilities compared to all those years before. Biggest disappointment outside some of the performances of some of the horses I backed was the lack of a Tab facility. Suspect Covid 19 had something to do with this together with the lack of access to the horse stables for anyone without a wrist band.
The poor catering ladies seemed to have largely over estimated the appetites of the crowd numbers as late in the day the massive smorgasbord of cakes and slices remained largely untouched and it took great discipline on my behalf to resist the temptation of a plate full. Looked so appetising. Sorry ladies. I really wanted to. Last race where my best result ran second after coming from the outside barrier, I did have the consolation of getting the quaddie with Dexter my Devil who had overcome it's own difficulties having almost fallen on the turn. At the end of the day I got out of jail on the punt but was very impressed with the new facilities.
However did forget just how long it now takes to get to Gawler these days and suggest anybody coming from the western suburbs going there by the Northern Expressway.

I took a female client to your venue for the afternoon. It was a great afternoon in which we placed bets on every race and found ourselves winning every race.
I write to tell you this was my first time at a race meeting. Nice food and drinks.
