I have been staying there for a month and I got a job right after I arrived. It was really nice for staying.
The receptionists are friendly and care about people there. You can say it's better than other two of working hostel (city center & tomato hostel )where I was staying.
Kitchen is alright a bit small and stressful if you are cooking with 50 people together.
The dorm room which i was staying was nice.

Great hostel, the people are amazing. Staff really helpful and they're lovely to you if you show them respect. Hourly paid jobs are quite hard to get but Debbie will always do her best.

It's not the cleanest hostel but most of that is due to the residents not the staff.

Nice bar outside and laundry service inside. 24hr access which is nice.

We booked to stay in Cellblock back packers for a week and hated it so much we left early. The kitchens and bathrooms are disgusting and I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. The rent is so expensive and you could get a nice apartment for the price you pay here. You're not guaranteed work and if you're a female you will be waiting ages. The pool is nice and well kept but everything else is hell on earth. The fridges dont work, people will take your food unless you keep it in your room, and your food will go off in a few days. I will have nightmares about this place. When we said we were leaving early a very hostile staff member knocked on our door and demanded why and stated it was an inconvenience for her. This just cemented the fact that we were going to leave ASAP.

We've stayed in this hostel now for 4/5 months so we definitely know how it all works. ||The hostel itself is dirty, no doubts about it. Facilities are disgusting and anything provided to you looks like it needs to be burnt. ||We bought all our own stuff such as pots and pans, cutlery and bedding. There are rodents everywhere but again thats due to the cleanliness. ||Its really expensive for what it is but then that seems to be the general price of hostels in this area ranging from $210 for a 6-8 bed dorm then $215 for a 4 bed dorm and then $220 for a double or twin. ||Rooms do get bins emptied everyday but thats it. They say they sweep and mop but hardly ever do. ||The staff here are really friendly IF you do as your told and follow rules etc.

I stayed with Cellblock Backpackers which belongs to the same owners and is (in my opinion) even nicer than the Federals. I stayed at Cellblock for about two months and was really happy with it. They found us a good hourly paid work within two hours of our stay and even provided transport to work. Even though everything seems really expensive at first you can still save a lot of money while staying there and you will get to know amazing people. ||You should still beware of scams though. I personally got told I would only get my 88 days signed of if I payed 200$ to the hostel, please take care and don't believe that's true. Simply print the forms off the internet and present them to your farmer.

In June 2013 Federal Backpackers was sold and is now under new management. When we took over the hostel was in need of renovations as the building was built in the late 1800's. We are in the process of renovations but are still open to business. We would like to thank you all for your patience while the renovations are occurring as this will take a little bit of time but by the end of the journey we will endeavor to have the hostel to a more pleasant standard but still keeping the charm of the old building. We have now also incorporated a fast speed internet cafe, tour information and booking service along with an Asian Supermarket.

if you come to bundaberg “DO NOT” check in too this backpackers TINY and Rohan the owners promise you work which then you pay full rent and don’t work for over 3-4 weeks, absolutely swarming with cock roaches & bed bugs. You get fined for literally anything.... even if you have no job still pay full rent the beds are awful like prison mattresses, people were having things go missing when asked for CCTV cameras there was no footage and they don’t work, rotating work list working 2 3 days a week. Tiny is the devil nothing good will come out of the hostel been there for 4 months and still haven’t finished 88 days . |ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Stayed here in 1995. Worked in tomatoes farm. Can’t believe it’s still here. Lots of backpackers looking for work and working. The hostel was not clean and not so good. 5 stars is only for the memories and that it’s still there. I recommend people go to other place for work, not bundaberg.
