One of my new favourite bar in Newcastle. Love everything. The hidden bar is so awesome. The bar is located behind a door next to a barber shop, without any sign, so if you find it you feel so amazing. The cozy environment made us feel special and warm. The bartender was very friendly and skilled. The cocktails were great and we could call something off menu as well. We tried Ramos Gin Fizz which was off menu and it tasted amazing. They offered us a free green olive dish as well to pair with the drinks. Plenty of street parking nearby. Will definitely come back.

Chilled vibe and atmosphere with good music. The only observation would be the drinks tasted watered down but nice to be asked "what do you like and I'll make it" instead of simply being given a menu. Very popular so you'll need to book as it's a small space.

You will not easily find this place, but it is a speakeasy after all! Once the hidden door opens however, you will be glad you did. A cool vibe in this place with excellent food and super knowledgeable mixologist who will create a drink on the fly that suits your personal taste perfectly. Visiting from the USA so it was also nice to see our flag on the wall!

When the waiter answers the door with "Hello, Friend," you should know this wont be your typical bar experience. The first time I went to coal and cedar I was reminded of a saloon from the gold rush era. The walls are covered in sepia portraits of native Americans and soldiers. The cowboys and Indians theme suits the tone of this speakeasy bar. I was sat at a high table. There are only three available and need to be pre booked.
I was blown away by the waitresses ability to recommend something specifically for my taste
. A nice, warm chocolate and oak flavoured whiskey during the winter time hit the spot. She was visibly overjoyed that I liked what she chose for me. She also made shots that aren't usually offered on the menu because my partner described his taste. Agent Orange. He ordered quite a few and theyre one of his favourites now..The service was prompt. The charcuterie board was perfect. My partner also commented on getting complementary olives while we waited for our drinks. Unexpected and very appreciated. It was top service that night. This was at about 8pm.
The second time I went in it was a bit later in the evening. It was busier but service was still outstanding. This again was at a high table.
The third and fourth time, well. There wasn't as much enthusiasm from the staff on those nights. The third time after booking a HT we were seated in a booth. There was no service with a smile. Service was slower and our waitress was possibly having a bad night. We left early after two drinks.

The last time we went we got seats on the floor tables at 10pm. It took considerably longer to get acknowledged as we sat next to the curtains. The music was turned up much louder on that night as well. We ordered a few cocktails and left. So it depends, time the night to go when it's less busy. It's also possible that I had a great two nights because of Brandy who wasn't on shift the other times.

Perfect atmosphere, friendly knowledgeable staff. We attended a cocktail making master class and made some amazing cocktails and created a unique original concoction that as delicious. At the end of the class we were provided with another cocktail and a smorgasbord of cheese and meats. We will definitely be attending another class as it was hands down a perfect night.
