What happened to the good, well-priced pub feeds, Cunungra Hotel?

Dropped in for lunch 23/07/2025 and left feeling ripped off. $19.50 for fish and chips β€” the fish portion was tiny, probably not even legal size. The 200g rump for $21? That steak was more like 120g if we’re being generous. Both meals were average at best, and certainly not worth what we paid. I’ve attached photos and a copy of the menu for proof.

This used to be a great spot for decent pub food, but the portion sizes now don’t match the prices at all. Either serve proper pub meal portions or add $5–$10 to the price and actually deliver value.

As a Gold Coast local, I was keen to support a local spot, but after this experience, I won’t be returning any time soon. Very disappointing.

Decided to go on a little drive/date with my better half. Canungra Hotel is a traditional style pub with the usual pub fare. Great selection of chicken parmies. My husband had the French one with brie, avocado, bacon and hollandaise sauce and I had the mushroom with truffle oil and a creamy sauce. Meals arrived quickly and the staff were lovely.
Very yum! Great crunchy chips too.
So, to have a great parmi with a nice, cool, crisp Coopers ale whilst sitting outside looking at a pretty view, was a really nice way to pass an autumn afternoon.

I won't review the room as i was there only for dinner.

We booked table for about 30 people and it was saturday night.
Surprisingly it didn't take long for all of our food to arrive.
Shot out to their kitchen brigade, they are fantastic! ( i am a chef myself, so i know what i am talking about ).
The portions were generous, taste fresh and delicious.
I ordered the special from the board, Rump steak and King prawn with pepper corn sauce. It was delizioso πŸ‘Œ
Highly recommended if you are visiting Canungra!

Food was okay - Pizza tasty but base was very average. Thai beef salad was lacking zesty/tangy/spicy kick. Not the cheapest of places, especially when you add a Sunday surcharge. Good to see Coopers on tap and staff were friendly. Nice place for a beer, wouldn't rush back to eat here though.

It's a nicely renovated, old style pub with friendly country, style service. The rooms are nicely renovated & clean. Near the rooms upstairs there is a nice sitting area with a fridge, games, books & an open fire.
The restaurant had a good menu, service was quite fast. The Italiano parmy was ok but lacking flavour, the Beetroot & quinoa burger was good. Both came with chips which were stone cold. Good size servings. Otherwise a good experience

Lovely friendly staff, but our food order was wrong, and the quality of our meals was a letdown. We ordered the Lamb noisette, which came out as 3 small overcooked pieces of a different cut, we also ordered the spicy pizza with extra pepperoni, which wasn't added, the pizza did have good flavour despite though. We would like to try the place again but disappointed with the food this visit. The dessert display looked like it had good choices but we didn't order anything from it

Great local pub! We always stop in on our way through Canungra. Super dog friendly out the front and back of the pub. They have a great beer garden. Only comment would be call and check kitchen opening times as we missed out when we passed through.

Beautiful rooms, spectacular ensuite. Crisp white sheets, beautiful big towels. The pillows were AWFUL (lumpy and springy) the bed was comfortable (memory foam). We were in room 9. There is no fridge in the room, but there is a spacious communal lounge with a big fridge and freezer. There is a beautiful airconditioning unit in the room. A small electric jug with coffee/tea/sugar/milk samples.

I would give this hotel room 5 stars, if the pillows were suitable, so bring your own pillow and you will sleep well.

Room was soundproof. No noise from others on the Easter weekend.

If you order food from the hotel, they will bring it up to your room. We did.

Thank you for the CLEANLINESS of this place.
