We took a big risk on booking at Canberra Accommodation Centre as it had shared amenities and that is something we are not too fond of, but we gave this place the benefit of the doubt as we came for Summernats, which is well known across Australia. We assumed this place was going to be decent as it was almost sold out when we booked. This was not the case at all. The staff were friendly but no directions were given as to where to park, where to enter the building and where the amenities were. This was just the start of it. As we found our way up to our room we walk in and are gobsmacked by the gust of hot wind coming through our door. We see a double bed, wardrobe, sink, tv and fan. The double bed is barely enough for two people to sleep comfortably through the night. Everything is crammed into the room, there is no space for our suitcases for us to comfortably move around the room. The TV’s stream cast system doesn’t work. The wifi will work for a whole of 5 minutes before dropping out and having to manually reconnect to it again (this is not an issue with our phones, it happened to a few people in the building). The bedroom was disgusting, the ceilings are cracking, dust everywhere, there were two power points in the whole room which are no where near the bed. There is no air conditioning, we’ve had 30 degree nights and layed in bed sweating as all we have is a fan which is no where near enough to cool us or the room down. Some nights we’ve had to sleep with the door open and windows to get more air into the room. On the first night we were looking for other places to stay in for the rest of our time here and unfortunately nothing was available. We had also found a finger nail under the bed which is quite disgusting (not my nail). The bathrooms were even worse, the floors were constantly covered in dirty water, hair all over the floor, mold. No bathroom mats as you step out of the shower. One morning I went to the bathroom and saw blood on the floor and wall of a toilet cubicle. Later that night I went in there again and it was still there which is revolting. Floors, roofs, walls and amenities were all dirty and gross, it doesn’t even look like this place gets cleaned. Our key cards didn’t even work half the time and our pass into the carpark stopped working after our second night. This place is feral and genuinely a health and safety issue, we will not be coming back to this place again and will be letting everyone know about our experience.

The room was cozy & clean. The communal bathrooms were clean. The staff were friendly & there is free parking. The location is central to the city however a car is definitely needed to explore the city. The overall external look of the hotel is not welcoming ( use to be student accommodation and very much still has that vibe) although cannot complain about the room & value for money. Certainly not a fancy hotel but good if you’re staying in the city a couple of night.

Great value for money. I had a basic, secure single room with card access and shared bathrooms. Spotlessly clean. The room had a sink, desk with good lighting, opening windows for ventilation. Lots of storage space if you are staying awhile. Free onsite parking with QR code access. Handwash provided in the room and body wash, shampoo and conditioner in the bathrooms. My floor had unisex, women’s and men’s bathrooms. A kitchenette on each floor with kettle, microwave, fridge, sink and detergent. Free tea, instant coffee and longlife milk sachets. Good location on Northbourne Ave. Small shop in the street behind for groceries and basic takeout. Quick drive to Dickson or Ainslie shops. Great views from the higher floors. Friendly and professional staff.

Staff friendly and helpful – I asked for an early check-in and they made that happen
Rooms are basic – it’s ex-student accommodation and the fittings are quite worn. Hence the 3 stars. That's not without it's charm, though, and it's not sordid, just a bit shabby. Everything is clean – the bed linen and towels were spotless, as was the shared bathroom/toilet.
The light rail stop is just outside, and it is possible to walk into Canberra city.
Recommended if you don’t want to spend too much money and don’t mind feeling like you’re 18 again.

Great choice for the budget-conscious. Unpretentious, spotlessly clean, relaxed vibe and great central location. Staff friendly and helpful. Beds comfortable. I enjoyed the nostalgic vibe of the old building.

Stayed here for a year for uni.
Location wise. Good. You have access to the tram and the city centre is 2 stops away. If you’re a light sleeper, people rent the venue room on the ground floor commonly. Your weekend nights will be filled with people yelling, cars honking and loud music.

The bathrooms are meh. Covered in layers of peeling paint, dust clogged vents I don’t know if works (less than 30 cm from your head) and rusted bolts. You will have to step up into the showering and I’m a shorter person and I can easily touch the roof, not for my taller peeps. You’ll be showering in the dark if you draw the curtain for the showers, or risking falling over on the wet tiles after if you prefer the light when leaving.

The ground floor share kitchens. Hit or miss if you’ll find a working stove or oven. Half the power points don’t work. If the fridge breaks they’ll leave your food in there for you to move even if you’re at work or uni. They will not move it to the spare fridges or replace anything that spoils from this

The washing machines will make your clothes dirtier rather than cleaner- will come out covered in lint and hair that isn’t yours. The dryer you’ll have to pay for twice for dry clothes
They tried to tell me to call the third party that puts the machine in the building to have them look at it, when the building is the one who has the contract with them?

Staff are lovely and friendly
Don’t seem able to do much and I’ll guess that’s just what whoever owns the building has them do.
Ie- I live on floor 6, women’s floor, Nicholas is my pen name. They say the fire exit is locked. There has been three times people who don’t live here manage to get up here drunk or whatever. I even tested it with another resident, it just needs a couple of tugs if it doesn’t open the first time, so not secure

When I signed the paper work in the beginning of the year I put the date I was moving out. When I went to move out I reminded them the week before. They said they will still charge the extra week because I didn’t give two weeks notice

My rating is mostly again- the location is good and convenient for me.
Moving because they are upping the price of the rent

This is the most favourable place in Canberra for my purposes travelling solo. Everything I need to effectively move around town in a few short days is provided.|Management and staff recognise familiar faces and are always happy to assist. Very good vibe of space while being accessible if needed.|Close to Bradden which is open night and day. Good food either to sit down a la carte or bring back to eat while working.|Showers are good and safe. Laundry facilities can operate on Gold coin or online.
