Truly the most inhospitable venue I have attended in over 40 years of travel. The physical infrastructure is irrelevant, for only the Soup scene from Seinfeld comes close to depicting the level of unwelcoming, inhospitable and authoritarian attitude displayed by staff to guests. The main function of staff was to act as vigilant guards over the paltry supplies of food laid out at meal and break times. In the event that a conference session ended several minutes early and guests approached buffet tables, they were physically and vigorously chased off by staff advising that food would not be available for another 3 minutes. Coffee and tea were available only at morning and afternoon tea, no other time through the day, and then only via such a small number of outlets that queue time effectively consumed the entire break. The crown accomplishment however was handling of special requirement food. IF one had pre-registered, and didn't want a single small meat pie or half sausage roll for morning or afternoon tea, one was entitled to a gobsmackingly stingy allowance of a single apricot or apple danish, cut in half (see picture). This is not hospitality, this is not service, this is treating guests like unwanted cattle. All the while supervisors stride up and down purposefully, making no eye or other contact with guests, certainly not contributing to any sense of welcome that might remain after going several hours without the bare skint minimum of a cup of tea. No tea for you!

Great Centre to hold a large Convention - Facilities are huge and staff were well trained and friendly. Bathroom facilities were ample and the food was suitable. Plenty of accommodation nearby for large conventions. Ours had around 600 delegates at it

Great space for functions ideally located on the edge of the city. Not a lot in the way of parking to be honest which is a bit of a let down and facilities have obviously borne the brunt of budget cutbacks with cheap toilet paper and empty soap dispensers. The actual spaces are clean and in good repair but function coordination could use a little more common sense as most events I have attended have had terrible and unnecessary congestion at the entry point which holds up overall efficiency and creates frustrated clients/customers. Better signage, staff to usher people in appropriately and overall improved communication and attention to detail would be a boon to what is physically a world class facility.
