To reach the observatory, you can either walk the 1.8 km Busselton Jetty or take the scenic Jetty Train. For convenience, we chose the train — and it was a great experience, especially for families. Kids will absolutely love the ride.

We visited on a sunny day with clear weather, which made the whole trip even more enjoyable.

Once you arrive at the end of the jetty, you’ll enter the Underwater Observatory and descend about 8 meters below sea level. The guide shared interesting facts and explained what we were seeing through the large viewing windows.

Accessibility is well thought out — there’s a lift that can accommodate up to two people or a wheelchair user, and toilets are available at sea level just outside the observatory.

We were lucky enough to see a cuttlefish, and learned for the first time that they can actually change their color — it was fascinating!

A highly recommended experience for all ages — educational, unique, and truly memorable.

A rare experience that you should definitely aim to go to. You'll need to book it in advance (to be safe) and it'll include a 10-15 min train ride to the end of the jetty and back. The underwater observatory looks really fascinating as you can get really nice close-up shots of the marine life below the water and even see the seabed. I really enjoyed the experience and listening to the tour guide speak about the various flora and fauna that can be found underwater.

The underwater observatory is a fantastic way to get up close and personal with local sea life without getting wet! The 15-minute time limit per group can feel a bit rushed, especially on clear days with great underwater visibility. But the experience is enhanced by the on-site amenities (located at the top of the stairs) - grab a drink from the fridge, indulge in ice cream, or enjoy a hot coffee from their menu. Despite the time limit, it's a fun and immersive experience that I'd definitely repeat when conditions are optimal. Can't wait to come back and enjoy the marine life in all its glory!

This was an unexpected find- went to the jetty after the farmer’s market and chanced upon this spot. Was a great 1.8km walk on the jetty into the ocean.

For $20 and a 15 min time limit, it does seem a little underwhelming but the fees go towards the conservation and maintenance of the area- which is an engineering feat.. one out of 6 natural aquariums in the world. It was a nice Sunday spent for us!

Splendid place good on ya Busselton and all the volunteers. The little train ride was worth it and then the Observatory wow. To the young lass at the Observatory desk a big thank you for looking after the better half polite and friendly. Big hugs from us.

Great observatory at the end of the Busselton Jetty. A short guided tour with stops at the different levels from just below deck of jetty down the seabed. Very interesting to see the variation in sea life around the pylons in the 8m from surface to seabed.

Another incredible experience at the Busselton Underwater Observatory! It's fantastic to be back this time with our young family, and it was just as captivating as I remembered. Giving it another well-deserved five stars!

It's truly fascinating to learn that the funding for the upkeep and maintenance of this unique attraction comes from tourism itself. Knowing that our visit directly contributes to preserving this amazing underwater world makes the experience even more meaningful. Hearing about the installation process of the observatory was also really interesting – quite an engineering feat!

Our kids were absolutely mesmerized by the marine life we saw through the viewing windows. It's such a unique and educational experience for all ages. We visited on a weekday and were pleased that there was "no wait" to enter, making it easy to navigate with little ones.

This is an absolute must-see! The Busselton Underwater Observatory offers a truly special glimpse into the underwater ecosystem, and it's wonderful to know that our support helps to keep it running for future generations to enjoy.
