Terrific location and well appointed rooms, with very comfortable beds, in this beautiful historic, but renovated hotel. We were pleasantly surprised by good old fashioned service, which included asking if we'd like to book a table for dinner upon booking. Also, on check in, escorting us to the room and turning on the air conditioning. Simple, but not often done these days. Added bonus was having the restaurant/cafe (and wine bar) downstairs. There is a lift for anyone not able to use the grand staircase. We had a room at the back of the hotel, which was perfectly comfortable however there was a moderate amount of air-conditioning noise. Also, a room with a balcony would definitely have made it a 5 star stay, but I'm being picky.
Would definitely recommend a stay in this wonderful hotel in a fabulously central location.

We were met by the lovely Dionne at the reception who showed us around and took us to our room: definitely the “best room in the house”: the corner room under the “tower”. It was spacious, luxurious and basically stunning with a large spa bath and a double shower with excellent water pressure. The room also has a mini bar, water cooker and toaster. |Parking is at the back of the hotel on a private parking area, so very convenient. ||We also decided to have dinner at the hotel, and were treated to a very nice table at the window. Another treat: it was “schnitzel night” with multiple options on sauces and toppings. It was very delicious :-). ||A simple but okay breakfast was included, so we opted for toast with (peanut) butter and orange juice, which was conveniently put in our room while we had dinner. We thus enjoyed our breakfast in the room, but the restaurant was open for an a-la-carte breakfast menu with various options. ||We only stayed for one night but in hindsight we should have stayed longer. ||Thanks for the wonderful experience!

Have been several times for meals and found them great! You can even get vegetarian and vegan options. A friend and myself got a plate of nachos each for lunch today (vegan and vegetarian) and they were really tasty and totally recommend. The meat eaters loved their dinners when we went out.
Atmosphere is lovely as is dining area as not too bright and hot and creates ambience.

Beautiful, clean and period representation of the Hotel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The food was absolutely delicious. Accommodated my dietary requirements and normal for my husband.
Would highly recommend and would definitely return.

I have been to the cafe with family twice. The food is superb. Absolutely the best food have ever tasted in central central Victoria and very reasonably priced.

Had lunch at the Bull & Mouth today and I must say the salt and pepper calamari was absolutely delicious. The staff and atmosphere were brilliant as well. I will have to go back again.

We stayed at this hotel from November 1st to 3rd, 2024, in a small town. Unfortunately, our experience was negatively impacted by a staff member who was consistently rude. When we requested an extra towel, her response implied that we couldn’t have one, which was off-putting. We also booked a table for dinner and were served by the same staff member, who was impatient and rude while taking our order. When we mispronounced the name of a drink, she became visibly upset. I requested hot water for my diet tea and offered to pay the price of a tea, but it seemed like that was also an issue for her.

Additionally, when I ordered an entrée-sized portion due to my diet, she made an unnecessary comment about it. Later, when she delivered my tea, she noticed my small Tupperware of brown rice and shouted, ‘Oh, you brought your own meal too!’ I responded calmly, offering to take it upstairs, but the entire time we were at the table, she and her coworkers kept glancing at us with looks of disdain and discussing us, making us feel very uncomfortable. If there was a policy against outside food, she could have mentioned it politely instead of reacting aggressively.

The following morning, we had breakfast reservations. I decided to skip it due to the unpleasant experience the previous night, so only one of us went downstairs and joined our relatives at another table. The same staff member was upset because he did not sit at our reserved table.

While the hotel and the food were fine, the service from this particular older staff member was shockingly poor and made our stay unpleasant. Professional and respectful communication would have made a significant difference.

Stayed overnight as a short notice decision. Parking can be a little limited but otherwise room was clean and tidy, and included a spa bath. Food was good and portion sizes were ample at a reasonable price.
The location also makes it easy to shop the main street, catch a film at the theatre or see some of the historic buildings still dotted around.
