Absolutely disappointed! We booked though a third party, we went to pick up. No staff. Called said they couldn’t get us a car till tomorrow. But the kms were 200kms max a day. We needed to drive to Sydney as we couldn’t get a flight. When we booked it was booked with unlimited kms but was told different when we tried to get a car organised for the next day. We also paid $500 for this booking to only be told they can’t refund us at all! For allowing us to book a car, then be told it’s not available yet as they are closed yet we called them at 1 and said they would be open for pick up at 5pm!!! Complete joke! I would like a manger to contact me as soon as possible as the number provided don’t lead anywhere and we are now stranded in Tamworth with no car!

Arrived 3:45 on a weekday to pick up my rental. Nobody attending the counter. Was told it was outside office hours?

Had to spend 15 minutes on the phone to get someone to come across to give me keys. Lucky I didn’t need to get anywhere in a hurry.

No process was explained during handover, and I was rushed out and given the keys to a different vehicle than I had ordered.

A demotion from the model I’d paid for.

Unreliable business. Won’t be using again.

I was so disappointed in not only the service, but also the lack of knowledge and thought from some staff members. I hired a car through Budget for a week for a relatively good price, was happy when I picked the car up no issues. Upon getting into the car I noticed a large chip in the windshield, and took photo evidence just in case they would want it, as I was not informed of this prior to getting the keys. A few hours after picking the car up I had accidentally misplaced the keys, and began a frantic search to find them. I called budget in the morning as they were closed when I misplaced the keys, and I asked if there was perhaps a spare key to pick up. The person on the phone said he was confused and had never heard of this before, and didn’t hold spare keys on site which to me is terrible practice. After chasing this up for 2 whole days, not being able to go anywhere as my partner and I were on a rural Airbnb, I finally talked to someone who said that I could pick up some spare keys the following day at 9am. At 9am the following morning, I was informed that there was no one at the manned booth and I would have to wait until 4:30pm same day. Why was I told to pick the keys up at 9am if there wasn’t going to be anyone there? I had a kind man go to check if the keys were there twice for me and he told me both times there was no one at the booth. After ringing budget again and speaking to someone else, they said that if I wanted spare keys I’d have to go to toowoomba. I couldn’t believe what I had heard and couldn’t believe how incompetence some of the staff were? If they had told me the spare keys were elsewhere I would’ve been able to sort out other means of transportation. I am so incredibly mad and disappointed by the lack of service I received with this incident, I will never use this company for rental cars again.

BEWARE - we booked a car directly from Budget online to pick up at 17:30 from this site. My partner was supposed to drive from Tamworth to Sydney for an important event that night (the last flight from Tamworth was at 1655 which was too early for her to leave work, check in etc).

She manages to leave work and arrives there before the pick up time to find no one at the counter. She calls the number and was RUDELY told that no one mans the counter unless a flight is coming in, and the next flight coming in was at 18:40pm, and that there was NO recourse. So she had to wait there for over an hour for the rude staff member (who I won't name) to casually come over.

This was a HUGE deal to us - leaving an hour later for a ~4-5 hour drive for an event that night meant that she actually missed it.

DO NOT BOOK HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE NO OTHER OPTION - or at the very least call up and confirm you can actually pick up the car at the time you want to book for.

When picking up my rental car I was charged extra per day because I paid with my debit card and not a credit card. They also charged me extra for insurance per day as I paid with my debit card.
I had pre purchased insurance cover but this didn't make any difference.
I can't believe a company would penalize a customer for paying with their own money instead of booking it up on credit.
It turned out my rental cost went from $180.00 to $830.00
They couldn't careless and told me if I didn't like their policy maybe try another rental car company.
Last time I will rent from Budget Car Rentals
