I'm really disappointed...

I'm a community support worker and assisted my client to obtain food vouchers. We were greeted loudly and tactlessly in the waiting room where the worker scolded my client for their vaccination status and mask exemption - there were other people in the waiting room. They referred to me as their social worker (which I am not). Pointing out a clients discreet support is potential humiliating - let alone in front of others. Granted; I understand the reason why they would like to maintain a covid safe environment (the majority of staff being elderly). However, they have an enclosed reception desk with a screen and could have just safely and discreetly spoken to them there.

They served us over the phone in separate room which was appropriate. We did obtain food and vouchers successfully and the worker who did that intake was lovely and respectful.
Despite that this is a 1 star rating for me.
People experiencing poverty and crisis have complex situations and needs. Please train your staff to be discreet and not potentially escalate a situation. Dignity is key to these services.

The Salvation actually helped my friend. Not these people, please go there if you need it.
Anway, why reject my friend who has been in a bad personal and financial state and in need of assistance when larger numbers of wealthier people have been using these sorts of services recently?
Just seems so pointless to have services like this that are supposed to act in service of the community and then see the community they're in and use things people can't change about their situation to measure whether or not they are respectable enough to get help.
Maybe take time to train staff that all sorts of people need help and it's important to understand underlying social issues. Then again some of these types of services have problems higher up and are beyond changing for the better

I rang for assistance. One lady said I could come in. Then one said to bring forms for proof of rent. Don’t confuse people. I’m livid. Certain people get help. The ones who really need are left out
