I was stuck between bounce and nomads but bounce was absolutely amazing. The check in process was really smooth. The rooms were clean, modern and comfortable. I used the kitchen and it had great equipment, loads of space and was very clean. I also ate at the restaurant there which was lovely food for a great price. I didn’t use the pool but it looked lovely.
The bus goes straight from the ferry terminal and IGA to right outside the hostel and <5 min walk to horseshoe bay where there’s a convenience store, restaurants and shops. I left my earphones in the room - they responded within an hour, sent me pictures in order to confirm the item and had it sent straight away. The customer service couldn’t have been better. Thank you so much.

Wow what can i say about bounce. Bounce Magnetic Island was the most magical place I have ever stayed. Not only is the staff amazing, but the energy is next level. You are surrounded by nature, good vibes and relaxation to the max. I loved my stay and wish it could have been for longer. This is truly a special place ❤️

The worst cleaning standards I’ve ever seen in a hostel! Completely unhygienic and unsafe!

Staying at this hostel was honestly one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had in terms of cleanliness and hygiene. The bathrooms were absolutely filthy, the shower cubicles were disgusting, covered in mould and grime, as if they had never been properly cleaned. The shower drains were blocked, the water would pool on the floor, and the basins were clogged and stained, with a constant smell of damp and neglect.

The air conditioning units were full of mould, both in the rooms and bathrooms, which is not just gross but a serious health hazard. I genuinely felt unsafe and afraid I’d catch a skin infection, fungus or some kind of bacteria. It honestly seemed like there’s no management on-site or that no one is enforcing basic cleanliness standards. The place feels completely neglected.

I understand many guests might exchange accommodation for cleaning duties, but that doesn’t excuse a job done so poorly and with such disregard for hygiene. Cleanliness is not optional, it’s the bare minimum for any place welcoming guests.

Here’s a basic cleaning schedule suggestion, in case management has forgotten what proper maintenance looks like:

Bathrooms:
• Pressure wash the bathrooms every fortnight (focus on floors, corners, shower areas).
• Use anti-mould and disinfectant products on the floor and shower cubicles daily.
• Clean toilets inside and out, every day.
• Clean basins and unclog all drains once a week.
• Wash bathroom walls once a week to remove mould and grime.
• Wipe down soap holders, doors and handles with cleaning solution weekly.
• Clean and disinfect air conditioning filters every two weeks.

Bedrooms:
• Dust and clean ceiling fans and A/C units weekly.
• Check for and treat mould on walls weekly.
• Clean floors with disinfectant three times a week.
• Change bed linen between guests and fortnightly for long stays.

The photos I’ve uploaded speak for themselves. For anyone who cares even slightly about health and cleanliness.

I’m sure no one would mind paying a bit extra for a place that’s actually clean. Even if they offered a “premium bathroom” option and charged more, I’d happily pay for basic hygiene and peace of mind.

Aside from the hygiene issue, the place itself is actually quite nice.
It is in a beautiful natural setting, easy to access, with a friendly vibe and great people around.

I genuinely hope you improve the hygiene standards.

Fab hostel, friendly staff, great location, everything easy camp kitchen, cool vibe. I stayed in female 6 bed dorm. And the bathroom in our room is kept clean. Nice pool. Do your self a favour and stay an extra night or two as there is lots to see and do on Magnetic.

Loved staying at Bounce on Maggie, the location is perfect and the experience always improved by the wonderful staff that work there. With how early places can shut up North it was a life saver that we could still get coffee at the hostel. Ruby saved me with her lattes everyday, really tasty and probably one of the best coffees I’ve had for a while travelling up the coast.
Would deffo come back and stay time and time again!!

Good location, and seems like a decent party vibe if that's what you want from Magnetic Island. However, not much to offer for anyone else. I stayed in a dorm and was pretty unimpressed by various parts of it. Instead of getting a room key, you have to download the Goki app, which is slow (a key would be faster) and annoying to use. The dorm itself had no lockers, no curtains, minimal space to put bags meaning that bags were left in the fairly narrow walkway. Sockets about the bed were directly behind the pillow which is annoying when you want to sleep as you risk dislodging your charger. The roof slopes in above the top bunk making it harder to get in and out. The fan is loud and annoyingly close to the top bunks, and stays on all night.
I'd advise small, easy to make improvements that would make a huge positive impact would be: curtains in dorm rooms, lockers instead of the weird unused alcove at the end of the dorm, and shelves up in each bunk to put things on. I'd also heavily advise getting rid of the app and going back to any other more sensible locking system (door codes? A key?). I'm aware party hostels aren't really my thing so this hostel isn't aimed at me anyway, but it does seem like the bare minimum has been done with regards to making the dorms a liveable space.

Such a gorgeous hostel, I’d say it’s our favourite along the east coast, the location and the staff are a credit and it’s our second time visiting. The reason this review is so low is because of the way the Wednesday night quiz was handled. We went to the quiz hoping for a fun night and some friendly competition with other backpackers. Upon waiting, the bar filled out with locals which we obviously don’t have a problem with, but we had a problem with the way they heckled the member of staff running the quiz. The girl running the quiz spoke English as a second language which is of course a non-issue, many of the backpackers playing the quiz also don’t speak English as a first language. One older man shouted out “speak English please!” and then another at the back of the bar consistently heckled shouting at the girl telling her she is doing it wrong and how the points should be announced after every round. It created such an awful and tense environment and everyone we spoke too felt so bad for the girl running the quiz who was doing such a fantastic job because it felt as though he was trying to belittle her. She managed this childlike behaviour in such a professional way. We then found out from the team next to us that the rude and quite frankly nasty man was actually the manager of the hostel. We were so appalled by this and it put a damper on what would’ve been an otherwise lovely stay at bounce. The “manager” ought to review how he speaks to his staff and how to regulate his childlike emotions, as a manager he should be facilitating the positive atmosphere of the hostel not ruining it for everyone there.

Nice and modern place with cool areas to chill but would need improvements in regards of the professionalism of the staff as some of them look and act like they’re on a summer camp.
As an example, the grounds guy has seen that the bin next to the campsites was full but simply decided to close back the lid and ignore it, twice.
Hygiene in toilets/showers areas were not the best. Female showers clogged and 1 out of 5 of the men’s cubicles had toilet paper for 2 days.
Also, I ordered fries and they were the worst you could ever imagine.
I am still leaving 4 stars because I don’t want to be too much of a Karen but honestly they are a few improvements that should be taken care of seriously.
