Beautiful location, but unfortunately our experience at Big Lagoon was ruined by extremely poor treatment from the campground host.

We arrived at the park entrance, followed all instructions, paid the correct amount in cash ($30 for two people for one night), and kept our receipt. There was no clear information at the entrance that the Big Lagoon campsite had a separate payment system or that we needed to wait for a host to pay directly. We followed the standard process as outlined on the sign.

When we arrived at Big Lagoon around 5 PM, we found an available space and set up. A while later, the campground host approached us in a very rude, aggressive, and unprofessional manner. He scolded us harshly, saying we should not have been there and that if it had been up to him, we wouldn’t have even been let in. He forced us to move from our spot to share with another vehicle that arrived much later, even though we were already settled.

What made things worse was that we struggled to fully understand him due to his aggressive tone and fast speech, and when we asked for clarification, his behavior became even more hostile. Several other campers, including local Australians, commented that his attitude seemed racist and that we were being treated unfairly for being non-locals and possibly not native English speakers.

This was an upsetting and humiliating experience. The natural beauty of the park does not make up for being spoken to and treated with such disrespect.

If you’re a backpacker or international traveler, good luck camping here. We truly hope Parks and Wildlife takes action and trains their staff to treat all visitors with respect and fairness.

A scenic place with beautiful cold clear water. You truly do feel like your a million miles from nowhere.
Clean clear skies at night, sit back and watch the stars and sattelites go across the sky.
4wd the tracks to other spots for a day trip or just relax.
Spaced out campsites are good with a variety to choose from.

Really nice and well maintained camp. First arrive first serve. Hard platform for the tents and large enough spot. bbq and toilet are clean. Pressure gun for the tires on the way to the park. You can easily drive without deflating but you will ruin the track so please do not.

Big Lagoon is a well worth trip if you are visiting Shark Bay. You will need a decent 4x4 to get there and let your tyre pressures down (18 psi for us). There is a tyre let down station before you go on the soft sand. The BBQ areas are quite impressive with ample seating and tables to have a good lunch and also provide some shade. You will need to take some cleaning sprays and wipes as the place was covered in bird crap. The drop toilet was clean and had toilet paper but I still recommend you take your own. The water and sand at the Lagoon was beautiful and we had a lovely day fishing, kayaking, exploring the local wildlife and building sandcastles. We also caught some nice fish big enough to take home and cook. Remember that no fresh water is available there and please take all your rubbish home.

Great views, generous sites, good amenities and day use area kept spotless by the friendly caretaker.

Easy track in, 20psi 4x4 required, 15psi if towing.

Quiet spot to visit for a day trip or camp overnight. Drop loos on-site as are bbqs and shade.
Water is clear and cool and great for kids. Terrific spot for standup paddle board.
DBCA volunteer on-site for toilet upkeep. Mind the crows - they’re cheeky and they learn how to get into everything!

Road in ok if you drop your tyres. Not all sites big enough for a van though. Would much prefer if you could book a site rather than rely on chance. Beautiful area though, well done up bbq shelters. Great viewing boardwalk.

An amazing camp with lovely hosts. Good drop toilets. Only issue is it’s not really first come first served, all the best spots were reserved for camper trailers. Hopefully when the camp host changes this will change.
