Absolutely loved every moment of our five-day self-guided Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk. The primordial richness of the rainforest was truly a feast for all the senses, enveloping us within it. We had some lovely, moody, broody weather with winds high up in the canopy, and it added tremendously to the experience. We really appreciated Auswalk's contextual notes that helped us learn more about our surroundings along the way. A shower, beer, lovely dinner, and comfy accommodations at the end of each day's walk was something to look forward to after each day's adventure. The view from the jetted tub at Binna Burra Sky Lodge was a fantastic treat!

My husband and I have just finished a 5 day hike with AUSWALK in Cappadocia Turkey! The most amazing experience with beautiful landscapes and adventurous walks! None of it possible without Auswalks incredible organisation and support! It’s like having someone hold your hand the whole way without being there! Thank you Auswalk …. Where to next is our only concern!

Flinders Ranges April 2023.

The best hiking experience I have ever had! And I think I speak on behalf of the 24 other people on our trip.
Cannot speak more highly of Katie and Brett who were fun, engaging and enthusiast throughout the whole 7 days.
From the bus ride to the food to the accommodation to the walks, your energy was always on.
Thank you so so much for getting the young and old(er) up the mountains and through the tracks.
Katie, special mention for what you got the young people to achieve. You are adored by many!
The kids haven't stopped talking about their experience and how they have come home different. Thank you for sharing a magical part of our country so passionately with us.
The team at Auswalk are fantastic and made our trip so memorable and are highly recommended!
Big big thanks ?

My girlfriend and I recently walked on the Nakasendo Way with Auswalk, which was my first ever self-guided walk. I was surprised at how easy it was to walk the track without much effort to find your way with the aid of the superb walking notes, which we rarely used other than reading the interesting facts about the walk. We didn't have to refer to the notes because we mainly used the app; we were never flummoxed at all as we walked. The accommodation and the hosts were excellent and I really enjoyed the different onsens each night. We will be back again to do another walk as soon as my feet are rested up.
Thanks Auswalk and to Maika.

My daughter & I went on the Kumano Kodo walk with Auswalk in September. We were attracted to the fact they ran a self-guided tour. I suppose, like every other guided or self-guided walk I've ever been on, I expected to create some good relationships with other walkers on the tour and that's not what happened.

On the first evening, we did make some good friends who were also on the self-guided walk with Auswalk and walked with them the next day, only to find they were staying in a different hotel the next night and so were all the other Auswalk walkers.

We never got to see any Auswalk walkers at our hotels and on the last night we found ourselves in a large hotel where we were the only Caucasians amongst 100 or so Chinese tourists.

Effectively the service offered was to simply book our hotels for us and provide a map. And given the price of these hotels is AUD20-50/night, it was a generous mark-up.

When I raised this concern with Auswalk, their response was as follows:

"Please note that you booked a self-guided walk not group-guided. The beauty of a self guided walk is that clients get to choose the date they would like to walk and with whom. If you wanted to have been with the same group of walkers each day, then the group guided option would have suited you best. The accommodation on our Kumano Kodo group guided walk changes each night also as you move along the track, so had you booked this option you would still be in a different location each evening."

It seems to me that if you want to do this walk, just book the accommodation yourself. The hotels are soooooo cheap. But they do look booked out, so book in advance. It is also easy to book the service that ships your bags ahead to the next venue.

I probably wouldn't have written this review, if I hadn't also been hassled by Auswalk to pay a measly $30 extra after the walk, because I tied my shoes to my 7kg backpack and apparently that counts as two bags. Even though my daughter had a 22kg suitcase. I mean really? Was that worth chasing me?
