The perfect Sunday steak lunch. Tee-bone and a rump, pepper sauce. At last a chef who really knows how to steam vegetables to perfection. But it was a bubbly young waitress , Mel from WA who made the experience so positive. XXXX Gold was fresh and the Chardonnay crisp. An all round first class establishment. One can quickly identify excellence soon after arriving. The Austral is one of the good ones.

Best steak I had in Mackay - Came here for lunch and didn't disappoint. It's so nice when you order a medium rare steak and it actually comes medium rare - compliments to the chef.

Steak was juicy, perfectly cooked and really enjoyable - will be back if I'm ever back in Mackay.

Staff were great and recommended the Chefs special they had on (can't remember the cut of steak but was awesome).

To say our meal was delicious is an understatement. Roxy 's bright bubbly personality just added to the whole experience. Thanks also to the chef who cooked our steak and salt and pepper calamari to perfection.

If you want an almost butchers thick T-bone, get it Med-Rare. I got an Aldi Med/Well and was very disappointed for the price. Mrs one was a decent size.
I went with my work mates 3 night's earlier and got the Porterhouse which was great, and he got a huge T-bone, which is why I thought I would try this time.

We were served by Roxie. It always is a great experience when we come and she is working. Nothing is ever too much trouble for her. She even remembered our names from previous visits. She made us feel valued and special. The food was utterly delicious, my steak was cooked to perfection. Obviously, we'll be back.

Edit: Thankyou for responding I didn’t expect a reply. We added chicken which was an additional $6 each hence $28 each as I mentioned. And Yes we would have loved to address this at the time but like I said we waited over 1 hr for someone to come to our table but no one came near us and it was not busy at all. Check ur footage it will confirm.

Terrible service with even worse meals!! Do not go here! Thieves. Ordered 2 salads & 1 drink & paid $69!!! Worst salads we have ever eaten. Could not eat one it was that bad & barely ate the other one. $28 each salad that you wouldn’t pay $10 for. Overpriced & disgusting. Drowned in dressing. Sat at our table for 1hr 15 mins waiting to staff to come clear our plates so we could discretely mention how terrible the meals were without making a scene and no one came near us whatsoever. Absolutely terrible. Would give 0 stars if we could. Do yourself a favour & go somewhere else. Massive thumbs down.

What a shocking experience at the Austral after not going there for years. I ordered a steak, chips and ceaser salad. The dressing on the salad was horrible and there was little to no salad at all. It was u edible. The chips were horrible as well. My steak was dry and I ordered med - well done. We also had to wait 40 mins for desserts we ordered, after asking 3 people about where the deserts were, to find out they had been forgotten by staff who were too busy rushing around cleaning so they could go home. Terrible! All we heard all night was glasses being smashed, cutlery being dropped and crashing and banging. The service was terrible and I wouldn’t go back there. Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos of the food as it was so bad it wasn’t worth it. My daughter also had a long dark hair in her crumbed steak. Foul!

The best rump steak … last nigh and tonight perfectly cooked the meat is the tastiest the peppers sauce is delicious… it was 3 years since my last visit…. Still the same I came back the next night last time also
