I was lucky enough to join an Aussie Drifterz tubing tour in November 2024 as part of my university trip to Cairns. While I didn’t go through the full booking and payment process myself, I did get to enjoy the tubing experience from start to finish, and it was a fantastic time.

We were booked on the morning session at the Little Mulgrave River, which meant meeting the team outside our hotel around 8 am for a half day adventure. Our guide Ben met us on the bus and was great at getting us prepped for the day. He explained our itinerary, including a stop at a petrol station for last minute supplies and a toilet break, and made sure we were all ready to go. Super helpful and made everything run smoothly!

Once we arrived at the river, it was easy to grab a tube from the trailer, which had been delivered by Kai. We also geared up with life vests and helmets, both essential for safety regardless of swimming ability. Before hitting the water, we had a quick safety briefing covering river conditions, signals, and what to do if anything went wrong.

Getting on the river with a full busload of people was a bit of a process, but once we were in the water, it was easy to spread out. You could float peacefully on your own or link up with mates for a group ride. Kai and Ben followed along in kayaks, guiding us through the rapids and taking awesome action shots along the way. The rapids were small but fun just enough to keep things interesting. Although we got stuck a couple of times, the river was high enough to carry us along without too much trouble.

Near the end of the journey, we reached a deeper section where we could hop out for a swim. We also had a go at standing on our tubes, which quickly turned into diving into the water when we lost balance! It was a fun way to wrap up, with lots of laughter and good vibes as people slowly made their way out of the river.

There weren’t any toilet facilities at the river itself, so we dried off and changed what we needed to for the trip home. They even looked after us at the end with juice boxes and muesli bars before we boarded the bus. By 1 pm, we were back at the hotel after a smooth drop off.

I absolutely loved this experience. Floating under the trees, watching the leaves drift past, and soaking up the calm of the river was such a peaceful and refreshing way to spend a morning. The river was alive with sights and sounds, and the whole experience was made even better by Kai and Ben, who were incredibly friendly, supportive, and attentive, especially to some of our group who were feeling a bit nervous.

I’d definitely recommend giving river tubing a go if you’re up north, and Aussie Drifterz are the team to do it with. They did a wonderful job supporting our group, and I truly enjoyed every moment!

Had a spectacular time this morning. The staff were super friendly, funny and professional. They explained everything clearly. I felt really safe. This is something that people of all ages can do - there were some really young kids today! They pick you up from your location. The bus is clean. The tubing equipment is also clean and well maintained. They provided juice and muesli bars at the end of the tour. Took about 3 hours to travel down the river. I would definitely do it again. My advice is to wear a rashie and longish swim shorts because you'll be in direct Sunlight for a while. Wear sunglasses , but not an expensive pair. Would go again with these guys.

They had camera, saying they will take pictures. I didn't see the instructors take pictures during the event. Now when asked they say sim card was corrupted. These are expensive activities and they don't have a backup camera.

Also, they asked us to keep going to wait. The water war moving fast and wet couldn't grab on to anything. We have done river tubing before. The instructor was very upset and said if only we tried.

He keeps shaking his head. Very judging of him to say if only we tried.

When the photos were not there, we had to chase for it. They didn't even tell me via email or text. Very disappointed.

Was definitely a fun day and Jordan our tour guide was amazing!!
I know they kinda take pics, but if I did it again, I'd def take take my own gopro, or even just mobile in a waterproof case to take pics as the only pics we had of our day was the briefing at the start and one group pic... didn't really capture the fun... or get the pics we would have loved for memories.. but the tubing itself was great fun!

My adult daughter and I had the absolute pleasure of floating down the river on tubes last week. Both Christian and Amy were so much fun, professional, and great at their jobs - from reversing the bus (way to go Amy), to warming up the crowd with his humour (go Christian) - the entire experience was a blast. The river was low and slow - which was just a seasonal thing - would have been epic if it was higher and faster - however nothing was taken away from the wonderful experience we had. The booking is extremely easy and communication exceptional. Highly recommend - only wished I could have floated the entire day it was such an awesome break from reality. Thanks guys - hope to see you again.

We were picked up from our accommodation and went to the Mulgrave River. There were parts of the river with rapids, but there were also smooth parts which were relaxing. Jumping off the bridge was a highlight! Overall a great experience!

Half relaxing, half adventurous tour. You get some short rapids on the way and the rest is a relaxed journey through rainforest. As a whole I liked the experience.
